And then when you need to send something physical, you go to UPS/Fedex and know that it will actually get there... Fun fact, UPS and FedEx often use the USPS to get packages between offices. Because the Post Office is cheaper. Funny, that. It's a combination of being able to place things on trucks that are going there anyways and the monopoly that the USPS holds. See, some areas CANNOT be delivered by package services, though they will happily take your money and then take it to the USPS for final delivery. Fun fact that I learned working in mailrooms for 6 or 7 years when I was younger. So, you're just under half right

I'm sure cutting the number of employees will help make lines shorter. We need more bootstraps involved somewhere, I'm sure of it. Ooooh, clap clap clap clap clap...well played

The USPS might have a nightmare of a line sometimes, but their service is impeccable 99% of the time.
I still send things by mail because I have a nagging worry of glitches and issues online for some things.
Plus when I order a book (seriously, fuck E-readers, I like the pages and the heft, and not dealing with another electronic screen) they deliver it within the time they give to a tee.

Our mail carrier hates dog. Big dogs I can understand, but even if the smallest teacup dog is in your yard, he still won't deliver your mail.

The size of the dog means nothing. The two nastiest dogs I've known have been small dogs. One was dachshund, every time it saw me it spent the whole time baking at me and biting my shoes and jeans. The other was a Jack Russel chiawawa(sp?) mix, that thing always yipped at me and would attack my shoes and jeans nonstop. I did nothing to either of these dogs, they were just mean and improperly trained.
I can totally understand the postal carrier being leery dogs, even small ones.

I love the USPS. I hope they keep on going.
Also, if my time working with dogs has taught me anything, it's that small dogs are bitches, and big dogs are not quite so bitchy.

As much as I love our chihuahua pomeranian hybrid, I have to agree, small dogs are bitchy. And no, he does not have the average bitchiness of both species, it's additive.
That being said, he can be an absolute darling when he's not barking at Intruder #124428098 walking in their own yard.

My mom's lapdog used to bully the shit out of our pit bull. It took our pit years to realize that she was the larger dog.

If your box requires he enter your yard and you have a dog of unknown disposition scampering about freely, I don't blame him for not risking it. A lot of the fucks that let their dog be a shit are too poor to sue for dog bite. And knowing that the PO will pay for treatment doesn't change the fact that getting bit by some fucknut's dog hurts. Better than some of the letter carriers my dad knew. One of them sort of killed a dog or two after getting bit one too many times by the dog in question. Hell, my dad had to kick one in self defense since he didn't have mace available at the time (and mace just makes them hate you more in the future, FYI). He's pretty sure it killed the dog, actually, but fuck that dog, it tried to attack him while he was doing his job. If you can't control your dog don't own a fucking dog.

People always make jokes about how much going to the DMV sucks; I say the post office is ten times worse!!! I always have to stand in line for a half hour. So yeah, anything they can do to help with that would be great. I love the DMV. They're so quick and the workers there are so nice.
