I LOVE fuckheaded assumptions like these, 'cause then I get to whip this out: I became clinically depressed as a fundie, homeschooled Christian. It wasn't until I became an atheist that I started seeking help instead of believing I was a fucking demon soul in a human body. Fuck head. Also, wut. Okay, show of hands, everyone with depression: who feels their SEXIEST when they're depressed? Anyone? You clearly weren't a True.Christian then. The blood of Jesus washes away all forms of devlry. Sinner.

So I'm trying to analyze his position on Avatar, and it just makes no sense at all. So he dislikes it because it portrays primitivism as good and advancement as bad. Fair enough, a lot of people hated the Na'vi because of that. But this implies that he is in favor of advancement, which would seem to go completely against the idea of repressive fundamentalist religion, of which he is a part. I wonder what the cognitive dissonance must be of praising advancement while at the same time justifying all the times when the Church acted for no reason other than to hold back the progress of humanity?

Then how does he explain Christians with depression? They're not True Christians™. I'm not? Damn.

Simple, because it's not his primitivism.

From the main forum page the title of this thread is cut off to just "Atheism leads to becom", and I read it as "Atheism leads to bacon".
It certainly can if you're Jewish or Muslim.

You guys are really making me hungry for pork...although in this context, that makes me think about the Wife Swap episode my roommate told me about in which the crazy fundie family ate only raw foods, including meat...

If it's fish, fresh, and prepared correctly, that could be quite yummy. Bacon is still better though.

I wonder what the cognitive dissonance must be of praising advancement while at the same time justifying all the times when the Church acted for no reason other than to hold back the progress of humanity? Because fundy religion isn't against technological advancement per se, it has problems with social changes induced by (or suspected to be induced by) technological advancements. Put simply, fundy religiosity = Luddite is a oversimplification. And when did the CC act for no reason other than to hold back progress? At the very least, it feared to lose control, and that isn't quite the same thing as 'no reason'. Galileo wasn't tried because of his astronomical theories, he was tried because he called the Pope an idiot. (I acknowledge that that last sentence is a simplification, too).

Galileo became a bit of a professional troublemaker toward the end of his life, as well.

Oh man, you should see his sermon on blowjobs. [In recounting the story about the man who started coming to Driscoll’s church because his wife began performing oral sex:] Genesis 38:9, idiot. Also bitches need to stay fine or else. "Trapped into fidelity"? Exodus 20:14. Arson, murder, and jaywalking, much? Also, "trolling" made me lol.
