Pen and paper, with miniatures, hand painted miniatures. I prefer the look of the bare pewter, myself. At least ink them to bring out the details.

I prefer the look of the bare pewter, myself. At least ink them to bring out the details. I already know how me and painting something less than 3 inches tall is going to work out. BADLY. No matter how fine the brush, I will end up with shitty smudges everywhere. It's the reason why I rarely draw--anything smaller than full-page looks horrible. So no. Keeping my elf ranger the way she is.

Pro tip: don't paint with shit. Use paint instead. It will keep the shitty smudges down.

Oh, but inking (and washing) is super easy and requires no talent, the paints used for it are already diluted so you just smear it everywhere and it settles in the crevices to bring out detail.
