I think Free Republic and Moonbattery have actually outdone Rapture Ready in the fundie department this year. I agree. I think much of the reason why people see Rapture Ready as the nuttiest is because of their reputation, without much thought of the insanity from other boards. The awards don't necessarily go to the craziest. I think that Free Republic and Moonbattery are certainly crazier, but I find Rapture Ready's general silliness more amusing than people endlessly raging over whatever the hot topic of the day is.

Shame on us for letting this fall to page two. Reading Shadow, by K. J. Parker. I'd not heard of her before, but I was browsing in a bookstore waiting for the bus and her books had one of those little 'staff picks' notes under them saying "criminally underrated fantasy", so I picked it up. Pretty damn good so far, a man wakes up in a river surrounded by dead bodies with no memories of who or where he is, he then falls in with a con artist going from town to town impersonating a god. Can't say much more than that without giving things away, but I'd recommend checking them out. I was at Borders looking for things to spend my usual post-Christmas collection of gift cards on, read through this thread and decided to give it a shot. They didn't have Shadow, so I grabbed The Folding Knife instead, and so far I have to agree with the description of "criminally underrated". Also while there I picked up Terry Pratchett's latest (?) masterpiece, The Fifth Elephant. Small Gods was my favorite Discworld book, but the Night Watch has always been my favorite series. More of the same, which is to say, excitingly original while still feeling like Discworld. It didn't feel quite as good as some of his older books, but that may just be because I'm familiar with the themes and style of humor (he reuses a lot of jokes). I waded through a bit of The Elegance of the Hedgehog on the recommendation of a friend. Reads like the sort of book that made me hate English class, with whole chapters devoted to characters marveling at people moving without moving and all that. I'll come back to it once I'm done with Knife and see if it gets better once the plot picks up. I also picked up I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. Haven't started it, but it came highly recommended.

To be honest, if it's been up there long enough I'd be willing to say its value is historical rather than religious and leave it up.
But looking over the article, it seems that they only made it a war memorial after people sued, and it was used for purely religious purposes before that. Plus one of the plaintiffs are a group of Jewish war veterans. So good on the 9th Circuit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Supreme Court is evenly split, with Justice Kennedy being the tie breaker. Kennedy's previous rulings in favor of gay rights factored heavily into Judge Walker's ruling - what's he going to do, disagree with himself?
Oh, and I followed pretty much every line of the original trial. You'd have to be an idiot on Scalia's level to find Yes on 8's lawyers compelling in any way. They actually stood in front of a federal judge and admitted that they had no idea how gay marriage harmed straight couples. If they do as well in DC as they did in California... the part of me that's stubbornly optimistic about humanity thinks that some of the conservative judges might even come around. Probably not, though.

it really doesn't surprise me that a gaza youth would say that. if you watched international news, you'd see stuff that israel does to the palestenians over there. stuff you certainly won't find on american news. Like what? Stopping them from firing missiles into civilian areas? Israel is simply putting the safety of its own citizens above the safety of Palestinians. What they do is no worse than a Western government would do were it in a similar situation. The constant demonisation of Israel by leftists is unfair, uninformed and borders on anti-Semitic. Seriously? "Constant demonization"? This is why I hate discussing Israel - because people like you seem to have a knee-jerk reaction to the slightest suggestion that maybe Israel isn't completely and totally justified in literally everything it does. And you're even accusing us of being anti-Semitic? You're so far beyond self-parody it's not even funny.

I believe that most douche formulas, at least those that aren't formulated to kill the user, are basically saline solution. Hence, "salty ass juice". That reminds me, some angry person on youtube sent me an angry PM, which included them saying that they wanted to give me a "fist enema". I can't remember what they were so angry about, but I was super tempted to send them a reply with a link to anal fisting porn. Except for the part where you probably would have gotten banned, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable response.

I am not allowed to demand my character can be a ghost. Why not? As long as you take whatever LA is listed in the Monster Manual, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be allowed to play a ghost.

I've already used up the 10 day trial, actually. It just didn't seem like the game was worth it compared to the F2P MMOs I was already enjoying, to be honest. So why would you want to get started, then?

...I honestly don't see the big deal.
The only FAIL part I can see is that they're apparently doing it this way to avoid being seen as targeting illegal immigrants and therefore racist, which just goes to show how little they actually understood of the arguments against Arizona's law. The law was bad because it was blatantly unconstitutional and would obviously be used to single out Hispanics, not because it targeted illegal immigrants. Plus, my personal feelings on immigration quotas aside, there's nothing racist about measures meant to counter illegal immigration.

Not allowed to indulge in recreational drug abuse.
Not allowed to cast mind-altering spells on myself as a substitute for recreational drug abuse.

You can also do a 10-day free trial. I'm pretty sure I didn't pay anything except the $15 subscription fee when I upgraded my trial account to a full Vanilla-WoW account. Of course, that was way back during BC.
And obviously it's entirely subjective, but $40 to start up seems reasonable to me. You'd pay as much or more for pretty much any other game, most of which wouldn't provide a month's entertainment. Of course, that's mostly dependent on how often you play video games - if you'd only be playing two or three times a week during that month, I'd agree that it's not worth it.

I find it amusing that people go so far out of their way to bash Apple. The anti-fans seem to be far more rabid than any fanboy I've ever met. In other words, pretty much what Vene said about Justin Bieber.
