THE RULES: Read them. (Updated 7/10/2011)
« Thread Started on Mar 18, 2009, 1:37am »

The Rules

• Do not break the law, or tell someone to break it.
• Do not post entire articles/news stories as that infringes on copyright.
• Do not post another person's private information without their express permission (name, phone number, address, etc.).
• Do not threaten violence against another person.
• Do not tell someone to commit suicide.
• Do not attempt to flood or otherwise disable the board.

• Do not post commercial advertisements.

• Do not circumvent any moderation policy or action, such as post editing and bans.

• Do not necro a thread that is more than 30 days old (determined from last post), unless the thread is stickied or it is an update to the original topic (including related pictures in a picture thread or participating in a game-thread).

• Don't be a dick.
• Do not make personal attacks outside of Flame & Burn.
• Do not make racist, sexist, or other attacks against a person's genetic or formative traits, or for their creed or beliefs.
• Keep name-calling to a minimum outside Flame & Burn.
• Do not make accusations about another person and call them facts without being able to back it up.
• Do not make a second account.
• Do not share your account.
• Address the points given by others in as civil a manner as you can (i.e. with a minimum of flaming).
• Address questions given to you, either by answering them or saying why you won't (such as "I don't know," "I'm not comfortable answering that," "it's personal and I don't feel it's your business," etc.).
• Do not persist on a point or question that another has said they won't address.
• Do not flame someone for ignorance on a topic or about another person's actions or posting habits.
• Do not make posts, or start a thread, with the intent to bait someone into a potentially rules violating response.
• If a discussion is spiralling out of control or rapidly derailing, either start a new thread on the topic (in Flame & Burn if necessary) or use PMs.
• Do not bring outside arguments with other users to the forum.
• When making a post, make sure to give an explanation or description of linked content, and to provide your own thoughts on said linked content. (Simply saying "Discuss," or similar is not acceptable, but asking for clarification on the content is permissible.)
• Do not use disposable or temporary email accounts, as we sometimes need to communicate with you (such as about a ban, forum change, etc.). Accounts with them will be banned on sight so as to keep the number of trolls down. (Free email accounts, such as with Yahoo or Google, are perfectly fine.)

• Must label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) as such, except in the NSFW section.
• May only use links if the thread title does not have the NSFW label, except in the NSFW section.
• Do not post pornography, even in the NSFW section or with the NSFW label.
• Avatars and signatures may not be NSFW, as it appears anywhere you post with no warnings.
• Signature should be no larger than 600x300 to avoid breaking page formatting and excessive scrolling.

When new to the forums (or absent for an extended period of time) take the time to lurk and get a feel for the forums and its members.

If you are unsure on a rule, or if a topic, picture, or other thing is within the rules, ask a moderator.

Rules violations will be given an Official Warning. Continued or particularly disruptive violations will result in a Ban. In general the first Ban will last one week (7 days), the second Ban will last one month (30 days), a third ban will last one year (to the same day on the next calender year), and a fourth ban will be permanent. "Rage-quitting" (i.e. deliberately deleting your account) counts as a self imposed Ban. Some violations will constitute a longer Ban than would otherwise be issued.

I thought pornography was against the Terms of Service for ProBoards?

I just copy and pasted this from the old board and added comments on, really... For the time being, no porn or nudity.

3) If a newbie inquires as to why a certain stance is taken with certain members or things, do not flame them for inquiring. Make use of existing threads or links and point them out to where they can find out more for themselves why such stances are taken. Be friendly and be patient.

This was used on me and I was lambasted for "being mean" to a newbie only that newbie didn't "inquire" but instead accused people here based on the mistaken premise that we picked on that person solely for their faith. They also mistakenly assumed this person of faith was the only person of faith here, that our comments about this persons stance on race and sex were lies, and that this site with some pack mentality was working as a team to bully this person. That newbie had not inquired/asked, they had accused, which, according to rule 9 was a violation on their part after bypassing rule 8.

8) *Newbies* When joining, do take your time to lurk and read through the forums so to get a feel for them before posting. An introductory post in the Newbie thread is a good way to start, and then to lurk for a little while, just observing how things go around here before chiming in on whatever topic picks your fancy.

9) Do not make outright accusations left and right about people and call them facts. Especially without any evidence to back up said accusations. It is extremely bad-form to do so.

I do understand that these rules were not posted at the time and therefore this newbie wasn't technically in violation, but as unwritten rules that we were/are all supposed to follow, they were still in the wrong by making accusations, therefore even by the new forums own rules, I was not in the wrong to flame that newbie even though I was read the riot act about it.

I'm only bringing this up to point out the fact that I was, unless I'm mistaken, in the right, or at least LESS wrong than the newbie though that is NOT what was relayed to me at the time.

I'm more than willing to take my lumps if I've erred, but in this case I took lumps for defending this board and it's regular members from someone who was just plain wrong in their accusations which painted the majority of us as hateful anti-religionists who would pick on someone SOLELY for their religion and putting forth those disparaging comments as if they were fact. Only my "violation" was seen while the underlying cause for my comments was ignored. This despite the fact that they are now being shown to have been violations first, violations that weren't addressed outside of my comments.

Just saying that some of the mods have been acting as if I've been fighting everyone and everything, when according the rules I was not even in violation or arguing against the rules. So nappy, just because I "Won't let anything go" or whatever it was you said, doesn't mean, in this case at least, that I was wrong. I didn't back down because I was right, even by your own rules. I don't just fight for fightings sake, despite what you think.

Rip apart my comments or my character and even hate me if you want, but try to base your bitching on reality please.

Thank you for posting this here Nappy. Not sure why it wasn't earlier, especially since there's a lot of mainpagers who hadn't made their way over to the old forums before Yahweh "pulled a Yahweh" on us.

About the whole don't post whole news articals guidline we seem to have. I'm not too sure it's a violation of copyright laws to post a whole news artical as long as you're not trying to say that you wrote said artical.

Ironbite-just a thought.

Copyright law is fucking loopy, so we err on the side of caution.

As to the "No vulturing (dammit)" it falls under the "Don't be a dick" guideline.

And we have been pretty good about policing that in the past. A quick PM to a Mod still protocol?

Absolutely. If you think you see a violation that calls for Mod action, feel free to contact us about it.

About that no vulturing rule, I generally agree with it, but would like to ask for one exception and one exception only.

When he finally kicks the bucket: Fred Phelps.

Pretty please?
