I'm kind of curious what all this encompasses. Is it just for genital surgery or top surgery? Does it include hormones or hair removal? Tracheal shaving? Voice training? Is it what is listed in the standards of care? Dammit, this is what I don't like about reporting, it doesn't go into detail nearly often enough. ETA: Would it have been so hard for The Advocate to include this?Issue: Whether hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery constitute medical care within the meaning of ยงยง 213(d)(1)(A) and (9)(B).

"What is it?"
"I just heard the voices of hundreds of fundies crying out in pain."
Great news though.

One step closer.
I've wanted insurance, public or private, to help cover the cost. But if you can tax-deduct it, better than nothing at all.

One step closer. I've wanted insurance, public or private, to help cover the cost. But if you can tax-deduct it, better than nothing at all. You can deduct many medical procedures from taxes already, assuming they surpass 7.5% of your income (in total, not per procedure) *. This is a very nice step in recognizing that transition related care is a legitimate procedure.

This is a very nice step in recognizing that transition related care is a legitimate procedure. They, like insurance companies, like wiggling out of helping to pay for prohibitively expensive trans-surgery by chalking it off under cosmetic and thus non essential surgery. I am glad that trans-surgery is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves. (examples of how expensive it can all be, I have been saving more than 10% of my salary every month for 5 years and I am almost half way to being able to afford surgery.)
