I watched the launch of Atlantis today from here in St. Pete. Even though I am on the opposite coast of Florida it was a beautifully clear day and you could see it's exhaust trail as it climbed. The last mission to the 19 year old Hubble is underway, I wish them luck on all the repair plans. It seems astronaut Mike Massimino has a following on Twitter of more than 200,000 and has promised to send tweets to his fans during the mission. So far after checking his page he hasn't sent anything since before the launch, but I imagine they are pretty busy up there... blog.seattlepi.com/thebigblog/archives/168436.aspOh and if you want to see the launch up close, a really good short video from NASA...

I heard about this. They're saying it's such a dangerous mission, they already have a second shuttle on standby on the launch pad.
I hope everything goes well with the mission.

Yeah this is an 11 day mission this time and some of the stuff they are trying to fix was never designed to be serviced in orbit. There will be at least five long space walks which are always risky but even more so when trying to work in confined areas inside of Hubble.

Oh fudge me, tweets in space. I, for one, cannot wait for this fad to pass. A time critical dangerous mission and they have time to tweet. Does that make sense to you? It does not make any sense from my perspective.

Part of me despises Twitter with every atom of my nerdy little being, but the other part of me thinks that this is really, really cool.
