The other problem is the majority of Americans are batshit stupid fucktards who don't WANT to think for themselves and therefore believe everything they're told about how civil unions and marriages are already exactly the same thing minus the church. These asshatcumsticks are the same asshatcumsticks who vote down party lines, say yes to things they know the name of, and sue McDonalds for not telling them their coffee was hot. True. Look at all the people who believe racism is over. Or sexism. And now, everything's good because gays can marry in one state and get civil unions in about five more.

Because otherwise political libertarians would have no power. Since the Republicans handed such enormous power to the social conservative wing of the party in order court the fundie Christians, the libertarian wing of the party has been almost a non-entity. There aren't enough people who identify as political libertarians to make a difference - they either end up in the Democratic camp for social libertarian principles, swallowing the consequent left-wing economics, or they end up in the Republican camp for small-government economic libertarianism and swallow the social conservatism. Of course this has bitten them in the ass, since the Republicans don't even pretend to practice small government anymore, but one way or the other they have to accept policies they won't like. Of course, a lot of people who call themselves "libertarian" in the US mean to ensure the freedom for people to do what the libertarian thinks is right. Do you really believe guys who rant about the New World Order are merely against gays to maintain electability?

Duh.

This fills me with rage of the Aztec variety. I read posts like yours, saying things that I can't even paraphrase, they're borderline poetic, things like this:
And why? Why is my relationship not good enough? Why is my relationship different? I've been with my girlfriend 4 years, which is longer than some hetero married couples have even KNOWN each other. We've weathered the same obstacles, we've undergone immense scrutiny from our families, our friends, the public and now.....and now this.
And then I read Fundie shit like Jack Chick tracts, who has gay characters going on about how they're going to poison the water supply, or something.
They're always going on about how God lets people have free will, aren't they? Then why don't they just shut up, stop with the unwarranted self-importance, & do the same?

Because if people actually exercised their free will, how will we know who's better then everyone else?
Ironbite-idiots.

And you know it's the action that's all that matters to them, too. They don't give a flying fuck about love or partnership. Hell, look at the ones who support "biblical marriage" in which the wife submits to the husband. Look at how they make it all about reproduction.
This should scare everyone! I know it scares me. If the idea that marriage is about religion--and only certain sects of certain religions--were applied equally I would not be allowed to get married. If marriage were really all about reproduction, childfree couples, infertile people and possibly people with a high chance of passing on birth defects would not be allowed to get married. But no, they wouldn't dare to apply this to everyone. They only did it to gays because they could get away with it. They're a small and often hated minority.
Prop. 8 has just been making my blood boil. There's no logical argument for it. None. All it's done is hurt people.

BUT IT STOPPED THE GAYS FROM MARRYING! THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT!
Ironbite-because two people being happy is such a terrible crime in this day and age.

The definition of freedom to these people is "the right to act any way I like."

Hell, look at the ones who support "biblical marriage" in which the wife submits to the husband. Look at how they make it all about reproduction. Look at how they make it about "standards" and "tradition" in general. I mean, if the only reason you marry is because you're supposed to, it's not much better than the other alternatives presented. Nothing says love like "upholding the status quo." The same folks who once argued against interfaith and interracial marriages. Because the Bible was against and/or didn't apply to them, either. Gotta love the faithful, eh?

All I have to say is fuck those bastards. Why is homosexuality so wrong (or bisexuality or transsexuality for that matter)? It's just the same bullshit this country went through 50 years ago. This is exactly why we shouldn't get our morals from a fucking 2000 year old book. Fuck the Bible, fuck religion. Call me a hateful, fundie atheist if you want but religion has only caused pain and suffering to humanity. It's a divider. For no good fucking reason too because there is no bearded man in the sky throwing us into Hell. Hell, I left Christianity because of that fucker Yahweh, I didn't care whether or not he existed I will not worship such a petty god. There are few things that truly piss me off, but hate is one of them. I'm at the point where I'd rather just hit the fuckers upside the head with a shovel than reason with them.

There is a quote from Fable II that would be really appropriate at this juncture, but I cannot remember it accurately and for some reason nobody has posted it on the internet. At some point I will get around to playing it long enough to go through that quest again, and I'll write down the quote so I can share it. In the meanwhile, let me just say that while some parts of religious texts can be useful, it is utter fallacy to build one's moral compass entirely around things written down by grumpy old men thousands of years ago designed to govern a society that doesn't even exist anymore.

Like many of you, this makes me sick. I learned quite a while ago not to expect too in this department, which is sad since I'm just 25. However, for all of my straight-faced strength, I'll be damned if this doesn't just make me want me to cry my eyes out to my mother, but I can't do that either because she won't have me.
In a way its totally dismissive because I'm a researcher/practitioner who has chosen to work with the GLBT community. I'm the quietest, most reserved person you'd ever meet, hardly the stuff of an activist. But I swear to [possible] god(s) that I will keep practicing, reading, writing, and publishing because its the only way I know how to contribute.
Damn, I could write forever and still not feel as if I've described how I feel well enough. Fucking pissed just doesn't cover it.
