Anyone else notice the similarity of the tactics used by fundies today and those used by McCarthy and his cronies back in the 50s?

Right here.
The calling of anyone who disagrees with them "Unamerican?" Check
The comparison you have in your sig, KwsN? Check?
The mandatory religion in order to be "American?" Check
Yep, valid comparison

Calling the left socialist instead of communist.
Saying that Obama was buddies with a terrorist.
etc, etc.
They will continue to use similar tactics 'til the end of time, just the terms they use will change.
Edit: I heard there are 56 43 Muslims in Congress.

We have to remember that many fundies consider the 1950's "good times." I suppose it is just natural that many of their tactics be adopted from one of the great villains of American History. Namely Mr. McCarthy.
Fundies crave inflicting fear. They crave anything that might bring people to God.

Welcome to the 1950's. Interracial Gay marriage needs to remain outlawed, we need to give up our personal freedoms and give the military a disgustingly large budget or else the Soviet Union the terrorists will kill us all, there are too many communists socialists in Congress, and the next generation is going to send the country to hell in a handbasket.

Well-said, Tiger. That hit the nail on the head.

Well-said, Tiger. That hit the nail on the head. Seconded. The ones who shout "Communism" aloud are the ones that understand it the least. The ones who shout "Socialism" aloud are the ones who do not even know what the word actually means. They demonise these words, yet practise them on a daily basis under a different label. Truly the standard of education in our USA ranks as one of the worst in the world.

As a Wisconsinite, I formerly apologize for electing Mr. McCarthy. Although I did not exist while he was in office, my ancestors did vote him in. They thought is was hilarious that anybody took him seriously. The joke backfired!!!

There was a congresscritter named Wherry who was going after gays in government at about the same time Tailgunner (heh) Joe went after his phantom commies. Wherry railed on the "lavender menace."
My dad was once stationed at a military base which had housing areas named for military-friendly congresscritters; one tract was named for Wherry (and the one we lived in was named for one Senator Capehart).

I wish there was some way to archive that quote, Tiger.

If you want to watch them squeal like pigs, suggest we return to the 1950's tax brackets. I do it every time one of them suggests it was a better time, it's a lot of fun.

Fundies and Republicans often need a boogie man/woman to point at. Otherwise, they might actually have to pay attention to the issues and offer rational arguments for what they believe. This would be their undoing.
