We need a synonym for "geocentrists" that will rhyme with "birthers" and "flat earthers", so as to be the beginning of a great rap song about fundies and crazy right-wingers.

Yeah, the belief that magnetism=gravity is not uncommon among Fundies. See, it means that gravity is "explained," so it puts it on a higher level than that drivel that is evolution. How these people think that, in years of research, scientists wouldn't reach this sudden epiphany or have any evidence whatsoever to discredit it is either beyond me or attributed to a conspiracy. Of course it's conspiracy. Let's not forget what Ray Comfort said to thunderf00t, "I know you know that god is real, that's what the scriptures tell me". Scientists know it, but they're part of the Great Deception. I actually somehow missed that part, while listening through the debate, so I don't have a real reaction, besides, "That's retarded."

and the pictures from space are...airbrushed? Photoshop. Which was developed earlier than we think by NASA using the money they saved by faking the moon landing.

It started with a discussion on evolution, and I mentioned that gravity was also a theory. The person I was discussing it with said essentially 'huh?', and then the flat-earther jumped in with how it's all magnetism because the earth is flat. It's not magnetism - it's acceleration, the disk of the earth is accelerating upwards at exactly 9.81ms^2. This perfectly mimics the effect of gravity on a spherical surface!!! (Other than for the fact that is doesn't explain local variation in the value of g)

I've seen a few flat-earthers claim that even when viewed from space, Earth is obviously a flat disk and that the idea of it being spherical was part of a conspiracy. See? Flat.

So... how do we fly and sail to the "under side" of the flat earth? And what of satellites? There's gotta be apologetics for these questions, I wanna know what they are.

Based on what I've seen of flat-Earthers the typical response would be to claim that all of the worlds surface is projected onto one surface of a disk, typically the north pole is at the center and the south 'pole' is spread out over the entire circumference of the disc. I get the feeling that they would dismiss any differences in the stars of position of the sun when viewed from different locations as a consequence of parallax or just claim that its all a conspiracy. I think most contend that satellites don't exist - which makes denying satellite imagery easy - as to planes, I've heard that they fly on curved trajectories to simulate to passengers the effect of navigating the surface of a sphere - I think that means that pilots are in on the flat Earth too.

Was going to submit quotes, but the thread got deleted by the mods. Apparently, saying 'that belief is idiotic' is a personal attack. But someone calling me a pedophile for stating that some 16 year olds are more capable of mature informed consent than some 30 year olds isn't a personal attack. Go figure. Ah, the RR/Mr. Mannnnnnn defense. (well, this thread will now be watched by mannnnnnn)

The earth is flat, the center of the universe and 5000 years old!!!11!eleventy
I know where they faked the moon landing! On the Moon, turns out the moon is fake, sssh don't tell the Soviets

I never knew there were enough Flat Earthers to amass so many semi-constructed arguments for the subject. Hell, I'd expect a Flat Earther to just...not take any of this into account.

It is mind-boggling the lengths some people will go to to make their shit even halfway believable, no?
