What gets me even more are the threads where they just start making shit up.....I mean more so than usual.
I don't have a link to it at the moment but if you have a membership over there and you do a search on animals and the rapture I'm sure you can find the thread I'm talking about. They were wondering if god would let their animals be raptured with them since they love their animals so much. Some people started to get emotional about their animals having to stay here on earth and endure whatever horrors might befall them.
Then they all started to slowly join in and console each other with the assurance that god wouldn't want you to be sad so OF COURSE he will let you take your pets with you. Never mind the fact that if god didn't want people to be sad half the friggin’ world wouldn't be starving to death and babies wouldn't be keeling over from abuse, cancer and whatever else. Just make sure you get to grab Fido and Fluffy when you hitch a ride on that cloud.
Only ONE person came out in that thread and said 'Uh, folks, this is very unbiblical. Animals don't have souls so, no, they won't be going with us.' He was drowned out and people just continued to make up their own theology about their animals going off to heaven with them. Someone even mentioned their goldfish being whisked off with Jesus. Some also wondered if their cats and dogs might not have a higher consciousness than nondomesticated animals and that consciousness might somehow get them into heaven.
By the end of the thread I wanted to make an account just so I could say 'Hey, why not ALL animals!! Let's grab some snakes, a few cockroaches, some maggots and some flies! Why do domesticated animals get to have all the fun?? And since we're just pulling stuff out of our asses here, why don't we just take our furniture and our houses and that favorite sweater you got from WalMart? Just don't let those DIRTY FREAKING LIBERALS SINNERS IN FOR FREAKS SAKE!!'

Even on the same topic of pets, I remember there was one about how someone's dog was in some manner of accident, and they were taking him to the vet and he was so hurt and they were praying for him, and then he just hopped up and was fine. And they were so certain God had healed their pet and they were so happy that God loves them so much! And I was all... dude, there are starving children. There are people with horrible illnesses, both infections and congenital. And there are Christians amongst all of those, and the children of Christians. There are people with nowhere to live, dying of diseases that a simple antibiotic would cure, that pray. How can you think that God cares about your fucking dog while all these people are suffering, and if you do think that how can you think that's OK? God doesn't want them to suffer even thinking that they won't have their poodle in heaven, but yeah all those starving and sick refugees and patients? Evs. Ineffable plan and shit. There's just no concept of either what is really good or what is really bad in the world in their heads.

I hate to sound elitist, but it's an incredibly unsophisticated and ignorant view of the world - to assume that that which you can't explain cannot be explained by anyone else, that which you don't understand cannot be understood by anyone else, and that the only answer to those questions is "Jesus." They remind me of myself as a toddler when I believed there was a tiny band playing music inside the radio. Only I evolved intellectually from there, and was open minded enough to understand the explanation when it was given to me.

Yeah, they couldn't possibly think of any other reason why their dog jumped up and was fine other than "goddidit". I bet those starving African aids babies sure would appreciate it if the Christian god could take a few moments out of his busy vet schedule to throw them a few more grains of rice.

What amazes me is that for a group of people who are insistent that they only use the bible to guide their beliefs- they sure don't in this instance.
I remember being constantly depressed when I was a rapture believer. Life was so pointless.

The entire Rapture movement is built on wishful thinking - that the true chosen of God will be taken upstairs without any of that inconvenient "death" business - so it's hardly a surprise. Combine the self-centredness of their philosophy with the fact that their maps of the world still mark almost anywhere more than ten miles from home with HERE BE DRAGONS, and the disregard for the big problems in the world becomes understandable. Not in the least excusable, but understandable.
