Um, the change wasn't bacteria in our genome, those are called mitochondria and they have their own DNA. The change was the appendix itself, it's nearly nonexistant now, in herbivores it's another tract, similar to our intestines. Ah, thank you for explaining that. Not quite, I was thinking that since the trait isn't disadvantageous and is advantageous, it wouldn't be lost due to genetic drift.

This is what I always say. The appendix performs some miniscule function that we could do without. Big. Fucking. Whoop. I can also potentially knock out your sore tooth by shooting you in the jaw.
The thread on RR was so willfully ignorant that it made me amuseated, as well. My favorite part was, "GOD gave us that for a reason!" I just love it when they make Yahweh look like an asshole, & they don't even realize it.
Oh, I need to be a smartass. Make Yahweh look (MORE) like an asshole.
See that, RR? I can do it, too.
Anyway, yeah, the thread. Just a bunch of "lulz Darwin was wrong, how can people be so stupid? Anyway, let's pretend to know what we're talking about!" Needless to say, I expect to see a thread spring up about how mean FSTDT is for making fun of them, 'cause someone saw this topic. And then someone will be banned for being a hidden troll. Who probably wasn't even from FSTDT in the first place.
My unnaturally hot kitchen, the dishwasher, an annoying MSN convo, & this have all put me into Aztec Level Rage.

Only instead of colours, it's internet references.

I cycle between French, Brooklyn, German, & Aztec level rages. Okay...huh? ?? Marc They're my various levels of rages: French=I MIGHT want to hit you with a stale bagette, or I MIGHT not give a shit. Brooklyn=Kinda like French rage, only more Americanized. Also some shit from Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series, which I never bothered to watch. German=This level of rage involves Zyklon-B tablets. Keep me away from your kitchen, & all of your doors with locks, if you want to live.... Aztec=This is the level of rage at which I demand a blood sacrafice. So help me, if I locate you, I will drag you up a step pyramid, cut open your chest, rip out your still-beating heart, & feed it to a snake god, or something! It's worth noting that I'm almost always on either German or Aztec level.

Anyways, about the appendix, it's still vestigial. That means it lost its original function, in this case that was to break down plant matter that we can no longer digest. Sure, it a minor immunological function now, and can apparently hold beneficial bacteria, but it still has a nasty habit of getting infected and killing you. It's still something that we would be better off as a species not having. Yeah, that's what they said about my Gallbladder. If I knew then what I know now, I would of tried the cure or kill herbal remedy.

Gall bladders are trickier because their purpose is and was to store bile and release it into the stomach at an appropriate time. The loss of that organ, while very much survivable, just isn't the same as the loss of an appendix. There are no documented cases of somebody having a lower quality of life from a lack of an appendix.

Okay...huh? ?? Marc It's like saying his favorite colors are Dark Blue, Navy Blue, Deep Blue and Indigo. Um, I'll grant that the first three fit together, but indigo most certainly does not. It can be quite vibrant and bright, given that it's between blue and violet (which is not purple!!) on the spectrum.

It depends if she's thinking about what people currently consider indigo in the ROY G BIV family or the indigo used to dye clothing which is considerably deeper.

I'm recovering from a bladder infection.
I wasn't far from begging the doctor to take it out, even if it killed me.
