*sigh*
Without wishing to sound racist - there is a lot of this sort of mentality in Africa. I have been unlucky enough to get caught up in some of the nastiness inflicted on the Tutsi by the Hutu in Rwanda where women and children in particular were slaughtered in the most horrific manner.
It is fortunate that the video does not also reproduce the smell. The odour of burning human flesh gets permanently imprinted in the memory.

You know what is just as sick........my initial gut reaction to the video which was "we should just wipe them all out, the guilty will be gone, and the Innocent will not have to suffer". Fucked up right? Educating people is the only way things like this will be diminished. You are absolutely correct. The temptation is always to sink to the same level. [At this point, I had originally included an account of one of the horrors I witnessed in Rwanda, but even the diluted version was too awful in the wake of that video. The point I was trying to make was that I ended up in a 'them or me' situation - and I chose me over them - I had to descend to the level of perpetrating violence on two other human beings - but at least it was quick and scientific. Yes, I pretty much sank to their level, I'm not proud of that, but I wanted to survive.]

This is witch-burning in Kenya. The victims were said to be carrying "charms". I'd only ever seen witch burnings in charcoal drawings of the inquisition before. Here's the real thing. This is the kind of tape that Amnesty International umm and arr about releasing in case they lose more fans than they gain. To those prepared to see something brutal, PLEASE give to this charity. It's the full force of what they are on about. Is this what you were refering to?Kind of a different story and with no mention of burnings, but sick none the less.

I broke down and watched the video. Amazingly, I watched the whole thing without getting sick.
****WARNING***** Discussion of things in the video ahead. Do not read it you don't want to know...
What got me the most was the one sitting on the edge of the ditch, just rocking back and forth. He was clearly on fire, but just sat there, making no effort to escape or even fight back.
I have seen video of Buddhist monks who set themselves on fire in protest. It's one thing to do that to yourself willingly, but what kind of mentality causes someone to let themselves be burned for something they didn't do?
*****VIDEO DISCUSSION OVER*****

I have seen video of Buddhist monks who set themselves on fire in protest. It's one thing to do that to yourself willingly, but what kind of mentality causes someone to let themselves be burned for something they didn't do? Hopelessness? Despair? The realization that there is no escape and that death will occur regardless if he tries to fight back or not? Personally I found that man's lack of will the most saddening part of the video, like he's just completely given up. ETA: What Antichrist said actually, was spot on.

I had that video automatically open for me at a blog the other day. It's HORRIFYING. Possibly the worst thing I have ever seen, oh my god. I had to stop before I got half-way through. What the fucking fuck is going on in Africa with the witches?? Kenya, Gambia. This is insane and needs to be stopped!

Witchcraft is still imagined to be such a real threat in some places there. What can you do about it? It's horrible.
