I really want to know why people listen to Rush Limbaugh. What do they get out of it, what is going on in their minds?
I just don't understand how people can listen to such hate, ignorance and out and out lies and abuse.
(fixed title to prevent confusion)

It's mental masturbation. Finding someone who can spew the same crazy ideas as you have yourself, is like finding a sex partner, albeit a virtual one.
Rush Limbaugh is exactly that, a virtual mental masturbation partner.

See, when I saw this thread title I thought you were going to be talking about the band Rush. Dammit. But they're the same idiots that listen to ol' Bill O'LIEly. Does that answer your question?

Because thinking is hard work. Rush's supporters happily call themselves "dittoheads" because they willingly let Rush LimBAAAAUGH! do their thinking for them, thus freeing up more of their time for ass-raping the Constitution and sending G.W. Shrub their underwear.
I'm always simultaneously amused and infuriated by the hypocrisy of politics in general and Rush in particular. During his acceptance speech for the "Defender of the Constitution Award" (HAH!), he ragged on liberals and Democrats for doing the exact things that the Republican party and BushCo. in particular had been doing for the past eight years, such as speaking negatively about political opponents and spending money we don't currently have.

I heard it somewhere else, about something else, so I'm paraphrasing here: The Rush Limbaugh fan does not want to think. they do not want to be challenged. they simply wish to hear their own opinion in someone else's voice.
I look forward to the day he cracks up and admits he was taking the piss, and just got in too deep.

So are you saying that me sitting down for a fifteen-minute listen is akin to fifteen minutes of roundabout sex with Rush Limbaugh? Someone, the brain bleach, please.

Not to mention that he screwed up the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in the speech he gave at CPAC prior to recieving the award. I, personally love Rush. He's successfully torpedoing every chance the Republicans get to become the majority party. I'm looking forward to the next eight years.

Turning on the radio and being drowned in the raspy voice of Rush is like waking up Sunday morning after a huge party with a horrific hangover and stomach churning, for then to realize you are not alone in bed and are met by the horrific view of some beer goggle enhanced "beauty" next to you. That's how I feel when I listen to Rush!

Do you reckon his comments about Michael J. Fox were more innocent than they first seemed? After all, dear ol' Rush probably knows a thing or two about missing the pills and having the shakes.

Because as an ex-dittohead (I was young, stupid, and didn't know better!), this is exactly why tuned in. I didn't want my political perceptions to be challenged. Really, I have been considering tuning back in for the sole purpose of MSTing some of his shows.

I am actually originally from a town not thirty minutes away from Rush's hometown, and around southeast Missouri the " EIB " network represents conservative thought. My dad loves him: basically because he is that kind of good-ole-boy vaguely-offensive whitey-scared-of-an-increasingly-diverse-world logic that appeals to those minds.
As for me, and I am sure everyone who subscribes to this website, I do occasionally imbibe Rushbaughs insanity. Not quite as refined as the pure batshittery of Michael Savage, but much less intense and repetitive than Hannity. Great for a morning drive to get breakfast: you'll always have a fun story to tell all your intelligent friends when you get home.

It's just similarity, like the old HS Forums i used to hang on prior to the close. all the reps loved going there till us 'liberals' began slipping in. After the flame wars caused the shutdown, the righties found a new forum. same as before, no new ideas, just one person venting how bad/evil/immoral/etc some idea is and everyone else propping him up as being the best poster evar. The worst part is, like christian forums, this one's run by one of the nuttier righties (obama's fraud birth certificate, muslim, anti christ, everything's a conspiracy against christianity types) and bans anyone that tries to bring any other view to the place.
It's all self reassurance, form an opinion no matter how batshit insane it is, find someone else that thinks that same, increase ego by reassuring eachother your ideas are sound and awesome. end results, "I'm Right, You're WRONG!" mentallity
