The old refrain of the oh-so-persecuted Christian fundamentalist. "You wouldn't be attacking [other religion], would you?!" Usually fundie Islam (with the assumption that one is afraid of getting the Salman Rushdie treatment) or fundie Judaism (with the assumption that one is afraid of being labelled antisemitic and ostracised from the ultra-PC ranks of the radical left). "You wouldn't attack other religions!" Actually, yes I would and yes I have.

Its a very simple action-reaction relationship:
1) Someone says something stupid that irritates me. 2) I refute their idiotic logic and hand their ass to them. Of course, they would call it "attacking," I prefer to call it ... something else that I can't think of right now.

It's the "you're only doing this because I'm a Christian!!!1!" bullshit I'm commenting on more than the use of the word "attack", but you're right.

I confess, I probably do handle the Muslims with a bit more care than I do the Christians. There's a few reasons.
1) The Christians are big boys, they can handle it. I'm American, and Christians are still the vast majority of Americans. When you're holding all the cards, you have to be prepared to take some heat. So majority, put on your big boy pants and deal. I'm also white, straight, and male, and I don't really have a problem being bashed by black, gay, or female comedians. I often laugh along with them, actually.
2) The fundies do enough Muslim-bashing for both of us. I don't want to be associated with the fundies, or join them in any way. I don't want anyone to think I'm like them.
3) A lot of the hate comes from racism, and I'm no racist. I don't know very many Muslims, but I don't think I've ever met one I didn't like.
4) I do bash Muslims. Muslim fundies, anyway. I bash them when they deserve it, and when they're wrong. Carefully, and I guess I just don't enjoy it as much as I do the Christian fundies. Some things need to be said, but I feel dirty kicking a minority when they're down.

Well, I'm Jewish, so I don't "bash Judaism". I do go after Jewish fundies, but I tend to use different language.
As for Muslim fundies, they're harder to bash. They aren't very common in the US, so they don't get noticed. And they tend to express their beliefs through violence, so I tend to think we should reply in kind.

"You wouldn't attack other religions!" I've always answered that with a question: Why wouldn't I?

The ememy of your enemy is not automatically your friend. I have. An asshole is an asshole, regardless of skin color. Also, Muslim =/= brown person. There is inherent racism in that. You're treating them differently because they are Muslim. In addition, if it's the internet and they are posting from Yemen or Iran, they're not a minority at all.

I should start being meaner to Muslims?

I have never "attacked" someon based on their religion. However, I have "attacked" several people for using their religion as an excuse to be an ignorant, judgemental, twat.

I tend to treat people in the same way they treat others. So yes, I often "attack" fundies.

I treat Christian fundies the same way I treat Muslim fundies, pagan fundies and the occasional non-religious fundie. I wouldn't say I attack them, but I don't attack Christians either.I disagree with them. I state that I find their beliefs rather silly. I use a fuckload of snark in doing both of the above. But none of that qualifies as an attack.
I've heard the bullshit about how atheists only target Christians. Even assuming it's true, I've seen more than enough people, believers and non-believers alike, treat fundie Christianity as it's in some strange manner less ridiculous than any other fundie mythology. I figure, at best, they balance each other out.

Let's see, when I was posting on Christian Forums I have gone after multiple denominations of Christianity, Wicca and other forms of neo-paganism, Judaism, Bahai, and Islam. I'll admit I don't do much against Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, but I don't exactly encounter them, so I don't care. Plus, Taoism and Buddhism aren't typically the types that would attack other faiths. Actually, most Jews, pagans, and Bahais don't care if you follow their religion in my experience. But, like with all groups, there's always somebody who does act that way.
Actually, I do remember being called a creationist by an atheist. That was amusing. So, yeah, I've even gone after the non-religious for being stupid.
