10 year olds are quite capable of original thought, especially geniuses capable of skipping grades. According to his parents in another article I read, he was the one who came up with the idea, and he ran it past his mother first to make sure it was within his rights to do. Of course, there were people in the comments that were majorly upset that he refused to do the pledge, saying it disrespected the country, the flag (who the fuck cares about that piece of cloth?), and the soldiers who died for this country. Nothing new, of course, just fundies being fundies Yeah, because it makes much more sense to say the pledge but not care or not believe in it so it's kinda an empty and shallow pledge...gee, that sounds like fundie religion...go fig Kinda makes me think of Robot Chicken where the kid is mocking the pledge and a bunch of terrorists start shooting up the classroom while a large loud voice says "TERRORISM!!!"

There's also Moral Oral's version of the Pledge. "With liberty and justice for most."

I hope he wasn't primed to say this. Even though wanting equal rights is a good thing, it would be far better to teach the child well and let him come to these conclusions himself. If you prime him you aren't really accomplishing anything put training a parrot. Agree.

I've been leaving the last part out of the pledge since middle school. I haven't said the pledge since kindergarten.

I wasn't paying attention in school and we had to stand for the pledge, and the teacher jumped down my throat I sat for the rest of the semester.
