...gays and lesbians have equal rights, citing the fact that the final words of it, "with liberty and justice for all" doesn't actually apply. www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/11/16/am.boy.no.pledge.cnnThis kid has balls bigger than mine. Starting 15 years or so from now, if I ever have need of a lawyer, this kid's getting my phone call.

Where exactly does this kid live, what is his name, and what does he look like? No child that brilliant and ballsy should have the displeasure of being raised by a bunch of inbred retards.
(Can't watch the video cuz my headset is broke...just waiting for the superglue to dry.)

His father looks quite proud of his son, i don't think they're inbred retards. i mean honestly if they were, this line of thinking would have been squashed like an over ripe tomato already

This kid looks really smart. I'm wondering if some of this is reflected off his parents, but he seems smart enough to comprehend it.
I hope RR doesn't see this I can see the fucking quotes now "INDOCTRINATION" "WHAT is with THE youth in THIS nation?!?!" "JESUS IS COMING BLARRRGHARRRRBLE!"

At 10 years old? TBH it's more than likely he's been primed by his parents/some other role model to say that.
But hey, if the jesustards do it, it's all good, right?

I hope he wasn't primed to say this. Even though wanting equal rights is a good thing, it would be far better to teach the child well and let him come to these conclusions himself. If you prime him you aren't really accomplishing anything put training a parrot.

I'm inclined to side with Trev and Malicious_Bloke on this one. At ten years old, I'm not sure if these thoughts and opinions are actually his. It's rather more likely he's parroting what his parents have told him. Granted it's a lot nicer that they're teaching him that all people have the same rights and that the "PERFECT AMERICA!" claptrap he's likely to be fed in Ala-fucking-bama isn't true, but... it's still just training him to regurgitate their viewpoints.
But hey, at least it's this and not "RAWR QUEERS DIE AND GO TO HELL!" Which frankly is refreshing. I only hope the boy doesn't get his ass handed to him every day at school for it.

I dunno, Cait. When I was 10 years old, I had a vocabulary every bit as extensive as that kid's (and yes, I also skipped a grade once, as well as kindergarden). If he's wanting to be a lawyer when he grows up, you can bet he's been reading his ass off about whatever legal issues are relevant nowadays. Whether he's legit or not, though, I agree with you on one point: it's good to see he won't grow up to become another Fred Phelps.

I skipped no grades, and was able to articulate why I rejected the pledge as a kid. Now, that was for religious reasons, and they were my parents' reasons. But at the time I understood and believed in them and could explain them to people. I would say of course the majority of this thinking comes from the parents -- it's tough for kids that age to pick up on what's going on in the news, filter it for themselves, and make a stand, not because they're stupid but because as kids at that age, that's not usually what you tend to think about. He's probably heard his parents talking about what's going on in the news, commenting on why they think it's a crock, that sort of thing. Probably had their views explained to him. But, in the end, he has to be the one who makes the statement and stands by it. Kids know that kind of thing -- hell, I did at six, which was when I first started school and wouldn't say the pledge. I could've lied to my parents and they wouldn't have been the wiser, but I could handle it, and so I did. Plenty of my religious buddies didn't. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though most of us as kids are probably extremely influenced by our parents' ways of thinking, when you're alone in the classroom, it's still on your back to open your mouth and stand up. If that makes sense.

10 year olds are quite capable of original thought, especially geniuses capable of skipping grades. According to his parents in another article I read, he was the one who came up with the idea, and he ran it past his mother first to make sure it was within his rights to do.
Of course, there were people in the comments that were majorly upset that he refused to do the pledge, saying it disrespected the country, the flag (who the fuck cares about that piece of cloth?), and the soldiers who died for this country.
Nothing new, of course, just fundies being fundies
