Can it really be a best seller if Churches and Conservative Organizations are buying the book by the box load or is there a method to account for that? Reminds me of all those Churches buying up 100s of thousands of tickets to the Jesus movie.

Not one that I'm aware of, but if someone has one I'd kill to know some of the real sales figures of a few books from the last couple years.

Reminds me of all those Churches buying up 100s of thousands of tickets to the Jesus movie. As far as best sellers are concerned, I am sure it is just raw numbers. If not, they would not be buying the books by the box. Speaking of which, I find the advertisements for The National Review (or is it The Weekly Standard?) ironic. They advertise Palin's "best seller" for free with a subscription, of course, they neglect the fact that their buying in bulk helped that happen. Even though there isn't any way to measure it, I would be intrigued by the concept of a "best seller" list based on the number of times a book has been read cover to cover. In Palin's case, that would probably mean more books have been "sold" to her critics rather than fans.

It was Newsmax magazine that is what got me thinking.

the publishers don't care if your taking them home and burning them - all they are reporting is sales numbers.

It doesn't matter if the pre-orders were all from Sarah herself...As long as they had that huge rush on them, it was a major pre-order, a best seller, etc.

I'd love to go to one of her booksignings, to yell "Quitter" and wink at her

You also cannot make any visual depiction of her under any circumstances. Oh, and you wouldn't get shot... she'd just make god smite you.

I'd get the book, immediately cancel the subscription, get her to sign it, then (right in front of her) drop it in the trash can (I'd prefer to burn it, but That's probably illegal for fire safety reasons).

So really, nothing would happen. Not quite. After all, an "act of God" usually includes them taking things into their own hands.
