Think about it.
Part of the whole point of Genesis is not only establishing "OMG we are teh bad kidz", but also "God made us stewards of this planet" (too lazy to pick up the book to look for a specific verse, sue me)
Now, what does steward mean?
Huh. So, according to the Bible, Christians are supposed to manage the Earth for God.
...
Which is why they absolutely advocate letting it rot, saying "God will take care of it, God will take care of it"
Yet another case where Christians (specifically, those right-winger Christians) don't even follow the Bible, just what their leaders say about the Bible. Ironic that they WORSHIP the Bible (and I do mean that literally), but can't even follow what it says.

Ironic that they WORSHIP the Bible (and I do mean that literally), but can't even follow what it says. The problem is the belief in an imminent return of their deity and their ascension/salvation. If you're given a toy to play with, and you're told to take care of it, you're going to try to take care of it, but you're going to damage it over time. And you can take steps to fix it, which helps if the toy can self-repair. However, if you're given a toy to play with, and your father tells you that when you're done playing with it, or even before you're done playing with it, you'll get a NEW toy, that'll be even better, and it will be the kind of toy that requires 0 maintenance on your part, well shit there's no reason to maintain your current toy. There's no reason to take any effort to keep your toy from breaking. And so if you believe that an eternal paradise awaits you, and that eventually this world will end and everyone who deserves it will go to Shiny Pretty Happy Land, then you have no reason to work to help the environment.

If there's some dude who says "God will deal with pollution, eventually." Take a shit on his floor, and tell him that he should deal with it himself.

I don't get the Christian anti-ecology mindset. I just don't get it. You believe God made the world "very good," you believe it's a special gift just for mankind, and you fuck the place up anyway.
It's like if someone gave you an awesome mansion with beautiful furniture, and a fancy garden, and a koi pond, and then a couple months later they come to check up on you. They are greeted by huge piles of rotting garbage everywhere, shit on the marble entryway, a gaping hole in the wall, all the koi have been fucking EATEN and the bones are everywhere, and everything's horrible, nasty, and broken except for two or three rooms in the back that are spotless.

Granted, I've been without reading the Bible for a long time, but doesn't it stress the dominion element?
Still, I agree with the premise. Not shitting on God's marvels should be a value of anyone who claims to honor God.
Then again, the Bible's treated as a long term snuff flick.

I don't get it either, in fact, I think that Christ would be pissed that people managed to trash the place.

Well, from the fundamentalist standpoint, the dominion over the earth aspect is really stressed. As in, we control it, etc., it's here for us to use. Steward does mean manager, but we've all probably had bad managers. They especially like the part where they're considered superior to everything else, because it lets them off the hook for considering what might be in the interest of the ecosystem/environment rather than in the interests of oneself.

I think part of it is just plain stubborness. I mean, most of these people are middle class and have very comfy lives, so they seem to think that any change is a threat. Hell, some of them have spoken out against energy efficient lightbulbs! Seriously, most of the changes don't really affect your lifestyle and can actually save you a bit of money in the long run.

Environmentalism should be an 'everyone' thing.

I think the main reason isn't anything to do with the Bible, and basically comes down to these people being selfish idiots.

As I recall, there was actually one Big Name Pastor who did preach about how environmentalism is a good thing. He was asked by pretty much all the other big name religious folk to GTFO.

I once said something like the OP on a fundy forum (Guess which one...), and I was accused of being arrogant thinking that humans can have any effect on the planet, as God was in control. I thought "Sure, God may be in control, but what if he's trying to make a point to how stupid humanity can be by allowing us to crap in our own nest?"
Yeah we're stewards and we should act like it by not crapping all over someone else's masterpiece (or, after having crapped, at least TRY to help clean it up). I agree 100 %

At least part of it, IMO, seems to be politically-based partisan stubbornness. Hippies/environmentalists are usually politically left-leaning, therefore, to all the dittoheads and less-intelligent righties, environmentalism automatically = BAD.

The way I see it; left, right, believer, athiest, whatever... we're all on this rock together. The least we can do is try to help keep it livable for the other species here, as well as for ours (and their) descendants.

It might have been a bigger plank on the Repub platform had it former (eeevil librul demoncrat) VP Al Gore been such a staunch supporter of it. And everyone here knows, if the left likes it, it's communist.
