Well, I only know of the Ron Paul tea parties happening in 2007, is that what you're referring to? I wish the current iteration was as socially liberal as them.

Yes, I believe that is correct. I wish the same thing too. However, I do not think that all the newer ones are filled with douchebags. I imagine that there are some who understand what the constitution is and do not want to solve every problem with war.
Someone told me that Michael Savage said that the tea parties problem is that they don't have the message of "borders, language, culture" and were going to go away unless they adopted it.
I nearly sent drink up my nose and choked from shock. The tea parties need to sell out even MORE to regressive ideas?

Yeah, the problem is saying the tea parties started in 2007 is that it was a different group of people. The original seems popular enough to have its spinoffs, but the spinoffs greatly overtook the matter fast. Most people probably couldn't have even told you about Ron Paul's movement before the Beckian parties. Hell, I couldn't have before Rachel Maddow started swooning over Paul.

I would agree. During the 2008 elections Ron Paul appealed very much to the outgoing, very progressive group of Young Turks that often voted for small parties like the Green Party. These people were actually libertarian in the classical sense. They liked the message of freedom Paul trumpeted. The difference between the Paulites then and now is that they have a very different interpretation of "freedom".

Ron Paul's also had a tendency to have a very committed following. He does surprisingly well online, but when it comes time to vote at the booths, not so well.
Of course, it's all a conspiracy....
