I never once went to prom.
I said it was because it was lame. While that's certainly true, it's also because I never had anyone to go with.

I never went to prom either, because I hated dancing, and dressing up, and pictures, and seizure lights, and punch, and people. I also had no one to go with. I have been told I am unfun.

I went to prom. I didn't plan to do so. I didn't know my date at all, which didn't make for a very good time. I don't regret going, but I also don't really care that I did. I wouldn't have cared if I'd missed it, although a friend won a computer. It probably would have been different if I'd dated at all through high school.

I could've gone to prom all four years (as somebody else's date and then on my own) but I wasn't allowed to because of my parents. Fundamentalist upbringing for the loss!

I went to prom because my mom made me go. I hated it, because I don't dance and just felt uncomfortable around all those people. And then my mom got mad at me for not having fun.

Gotta agree with Ironbite. Like I said before, proms are a waster of money. Very few people I know had more than an "ok" time at theirs. I never went to one either. I was more than content just going to the afterparites, which everyone I know has said were a lot more fun than the actual prom.

I never went to prom, either. Personally, I viewed it as nothing more than a meaningless waste of time that could be spent reading or blowing something up.
I'd have skipped my fucking graduation, too, but my mom can be a right ass sometime. Why waste money on a trite, boring, 3-hour long ceremony to get a fucking piece of paper when they can just as easily mail the fucker, and I can spend those 3 hours partying with my friends and drinking? You know...things that are actually FUN?
Although I can now say I slept through 2/3 of graduation, so maybe not a complete loss. Though those extra 3 hours of partying would've been nice.

I went to Six Flags instead of prom. It was sort of like prom in that some of us went home vomiting.

The highlight of my senior year was the after graduation party. Mostly because I was never going to see any of those fuckers again.

I went to prom because my mom made me go. I hated it, because I don't dance and just felt uncomfortable around all those people. And then my mom got mad at me for not having fun. Yelling at someone for not having fun seems immensely counter-productive. I am beginning to suspect that your mother is perhaps a crazy person. I myself would be glad for an excuse not to go to prom (well, I already have one, but still).

I went to my Junior prom, which was fun because my best friend and I decided to go stag together. It was common for the school where I went to because I went to an all girls Catholic school (from grades 9th-11th). It was more fun, in my opinion, to hang out with a bunch of your friends at prom than the alternative.
I decided to make money and go to work rather than go to my Senior prom.
From the looks of it, the ACLU got involved, and if they were going to take this to court if the discrimination persisted. The school had two options: either let the girl take her girlfriend to prom or cancel the it. This was just a d-bag move.
