The 17th what you ask. That would be the 17th amendment of the US constitution. Nothing important, it is only the amendment that gave people that right to elect their state senators. Instead of having state legislators pick them for you. ........what you don't know who Gohmert is. Don't feel bad no one else does. Representative Louie Gohmert is from that great state of......well you can most likely guess. TEXAS! Gomer Gohmert said "Ever since the safeguard of State legislatures electing U.S. Senators was removed by the 17th Amendment in 1913, there has been no check or balance on the Federal power grab for the last 97 years. Article V requires a minimum of 34 states to request a Convention which in this case, would be an Amendment Convention for only ONE amendment." So a Texas congressman thinks that the people election Senator is bad. Somehow I'm not overly surprised. Personally I think that people should stop election air headed morons such as this. tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/gohmert-fight-health-care-bill-by-repealing-popular-election-of-senators-video.php

Wow...an Amendment battle in my lifetime. I thought only Bush would be that stupid to try to get something added to the Constitution.
Ironbite-he honestlly expects this to go through eh? Does he realize he'll probably be the first to go?

Yeah, I'm real sure we'll see an amendment be repealed. Especially one that shifts things slightly toward strengthening republican government.

So, an elected senator is against people electing senators? Actually, a representative is. As such, it doesn't affect him personally. Reread the amendment.

They call people like us "elitist", then pull this crap... When the people vote for them the people are smart and can't be fooled. When they vote for the other side, the people were taken for a ride and did not know what they were doing.
