www.imdb.com/news/ns0000002/O'Reilly Boycotts Penn Films Over Political Stance 30 March 2009 5:11 AM, PDT Controversial TV pundit Bill O'Reilly has vowed to boycott Sean Penn's movies - insisting he can't watch the actor's big screen projects due to their conflicting political views. The right-wing commentator, who fronts his own show The O'Reilly Factor on America's Fox News, is well known for his criticisms of liberal celebrities, and has openly mocked left-wing stars Jessica Alba, George Clooney and Rosie O'Donnell. Now, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, O'Reilly has admitted he wouldn't pay money to see Oscar-winner Penn's movies due to his involvement with controversial politicians, including Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. When asked by the publication if there are any actors whose political opinions disturb him so much he wouldn't see their films, he replied, "Just Sean Penn." And when pushed on the response, O'Reilly explained, "He's a great actor, and if you hire him, you'll get a good performance. "I'm just not going to give a guy who gives aid and comfort to people like (Iran president Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez and Saddam Hussein, when he was alive, my 10 bucks. That's my right as an American." In 2005, Penn visited Iran acting as a journalist on an assignment for the San Francisco Chronicle and has defended Venezuelan leader Chavez by claiming the U.S. was "becoming increasingly gullible to the demonizing of foreign states or leaders".

That's really going to cause a problem for Penn. What is it with people who must maintain that tunnel vision version of life? I don't get it. I see movies and stuff that doesn't match my own personal sense of ethics, too. It's called "challenging yourself". It reminds me of my fundy upbringing where everything that conflicted with religious views (which is what I suspect is really going on here) was avoided. Some JWs wouldn't even watch things like Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs because there was magic afoot in it and animals talked. FFS.

Yeah, my first reaction was " who the fuck cares?"
I doubt O'Reilly or his fanbase were really a factor (pardon the pun) in the success of Milk, for example.

I see them as both idiots, doesn't mean i'll boycott either one though. Doing that just backs up the point the boycotter is a moron

That's my right as an American. Yeah, he's lucky he lives in America. Everywhere else, we have mandatory Sean Penn films every two weeks.

Bill-O just can't stand a guy who can make a movie in which gays are portrayed as normal human beings ("Milk" kicked ass!). Seriously though, gave aid and comfort to enemies? Hugo Chavez is our enemy? On what planet? Venezuelans don't hate America, they just hated Bush--and you know what, I do too, so good for them. Opposing the Iraq War was aiding and comforting Saddam Hussein? Really? Bill O'Reilly is Joe McCarthy's wet dream....

He's one of the celebs that actually DOES put his money where his mouth is. After Hurricane Katrina he was down in NO helping people before the government was. He was nutty in the 80s and abused Madonna while they were married, but he mellowed out and has done a lot of good since.

Good for him he went to help, maybe next time less cameras and check the boat for holes would help. I don't let that mean everything he does is stupid, i just think he's a showboater at times when he does some of that stuff

I think it would be funny if Penn put out a statement saying that Bill'O is banned from his movies. That way the only way Bill'O could prove him wrong is by going to one of his movies.

The problem with Bill O'Reilly and others like him is that their mindsets force them into ridiculous shit like this. They maintain that everyone has to be extreme, that there is no room for compromise, and their viewpoints are the only ones that are valid. This leads to the rather hilarious outcome of stupid stuff like this, because, otherwise they might be forced into finding out that they speak from their asses.
