Obama's okay. There's been better, and there's been worse Presidents. Some policies I like, some policies I don't.
It's the same with every President we've had in my lifetime. Some worse or better than others.
He's okay.

I missed that
"Furthermore, I've not seen a single thing inside the bill itself that would directly work to increase the supply of medical professionals in America;"
That's because you haven't looked at the damned thing...you've listened to Fox and pissed off republicans jump up and down having tantrums and now repeat what they told you.

Though we still have a long way to go, the economy has improved.
Diplomacy is vogue again.
We just got healthcare reform, now with finance reform, he can "shove another one down their throats."

I've noticed that ask any republican if they've read the bill and they will either say yes(here's a hint: they haven't) or they will bitch about it being a thousand pages long.

I personally haven't. 1000 pages of legalese = pass. I have, however, made a point of paying attention to news articles laying out what's in the bill rather than opinion pieces on it.

I think it's fair to say that Obama's been the best US president since Clinton

While he's been refusing to end either of the wars, To be fair, Obama has been withdrawaing slowly from Iraq. We are withdrawing from Iraq; which is the only thing Obama promised. Afghanistan has been stepped up because things have gotten worse since 2005. The troop build up now is to get things back under control so we can give pass it to the Afghani people when they are ready for the responsibility.

Here's my scorecard:
Healthcare reform - check repeal of DADT - in the works (semi-check) unemployment problem - improving (tentative check) mortgage meltdown problem - meh (no check) student loan reform - check international reduction nuclear weapons - check repeal of "No child left behind" - not repealed, but revised with greater funding and flexibility (semi-check) Drawdown in Iraq/Emphasize Afghanistan - check (I don't like the latter, necessaril, but it's what he promised)
There's a lot more out there, but that's the mainstream stuff that kept my attention. I'll give him credit for taking the bull by the horns. He's tackling the biggest issues there are - head on, and getting shit done.
Healthcare reform is something that's going to go down in history as a game changer. If he can cap the size of the big banks (or best case scenario - get something similar to the Glass-Steagall Act reinstated or passed), he could go on vacation for the next 2 years and still be a hero in my book.
If there's any one thing that he has done, though, something that won't go into the law books, it has been exposing the the Republican party for the lying, hypocritical asswipes that they really are. I've been voting since the 92 election, and I've never seen anyone meet criticism head on as honestly and smoothly as he does. I liked Clinton, but he (publicly) relied more on charm than he did reason and argument. Obama, though, tackles criticism with nothing but bare knuckle logic and over and over again exposes the Republican pseudo-everyman Bible thumping bullshit posturing that it is. It's beautiful, honestly, and inspiring.
He's like the Muhammad Ali of politics. He struts a little, sure, but man can he ever back it up with action.

mortgage meltdown problem - meh (no check) I believe I heard that Congress was going to start tackling the issue of financial reform fairly soon.

That is a good site and it shows 108 promises kept to 19 broken - I will give him some breaks though as when he was running he didn't know the economy would tank right before he took office - and his predecessor would bail out banks with no strings attached. Be aware you will not get an unbiased answer from this forum - most of us are pretty solidly with him (or at least more against the opposing party) www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/3/30/11533/0704

mortgage meltdown problem - meh (no check) I believe I heard that Congress was going to start tackling the issue of financial reform fairly soon. different issue IMO - there's tackling the problem at the regulatory end, which they're in the process of, and then there's helping people who are already suffering under bad mortgages...that's not going quite so well.
