That's like demanding that a 15 year old boy beat off to porn or spend 3 hours on his Xbox 360. It's also like demanding that a hungry fat kid eat that chocolate cake in front of him. Obviously those people don't feel like their legislature is doing their jobs. That may be so, but these people don't seem to have a problem with that.

Looks like you have been out of touch. In touch with the wrong people apparently. Aren't you from a deep blue state?

Oh, and look who showed up: And guess where a lot of their paychecks come from? No wonder they want higher taxes (for other people of course, they will just use political connections to avoid them for themselves).

In touch with the wrong people apparently. Aren't you from a deep blue state? Quite, but I'm from an area of it that regularly elects republicans who are roughly democrats by the national scale of things. And on the note of highest taxed areas in the country, I'm in the top five, and looking at my paycheck I have no clue what the hell people are complaining about.

People with political connections avoiding taxes is not exactly a new thing. Yes, because if taxes are raised all the state employees and union workers are just going to be exempt.

Okay, but I really don't care much for partisan politics. And on the note of highest taxed areas in the country, I'm in the top five, and looking at my paycheck I have no clue what the hell people are complaining about. Well, I'm glad your'e having fun, but I have no idea how much you make, nor do I know what percentage you pay. So this statement does not mean too much to me.

About a third, and enough that I'm one of those who was going to be sacrificed to the gods of socialism and destroy the American capitalist system back when Obama was elected.

I am proud of my state right now. Springfield, Illinois saw 15,000 people show up at the capital to rally for a tax increase. Why? They want to pay more taxes to make sure schools and other government services are not cut. The crowd chanted at lawmakers "do you jobs" and "show some guts". That's like demanding that a 15 year old boy beat off to porn or spend 3 hours on his Xbox 360. It's also like demanding that a hungry fat kid eat that chocolate cake in front of him. The state legislature is more interested in cutting programs just so they can say they did not raise taxes. Illinois is not really known for low taxes. Where the fuck have you been? Taxes have been dropping since the 50s, especially after trickle-down became popular with Reagan. And I do have a problem with Illinois taxes, but not in the way you do (your irrational dislike of any taxes). Places like Cook county create tons of taxes on goods that end up just hurting the lower and middle classes. More progressive taxation please.

Not all taxes are income taxes. You have to look at all of it, you also have to look at how exemptions work. The US does very little distribution of wealth. Also, to back up Mira's point about the regressive tax system: There is way too much of a burden on the lower classes.

Taxes have been dropping since the 50s, especially after trickle-down became popular with Reagan. That is Federal taxes. And I do have a problem with Illinois taxes, So I guess we do agree after all. but not in the way you do (your irrational dislike of any taxes). How do you know how much I like or dislike taxes? Places like Cook county create tons of taxes on goods that end up just hurting the lower and middle classes. More progressive taxation please. What do you mean by that? Do you intend to lower those taxes targeted at goods which lower class and middle class people buy, or would you intend to increase them for those who earn more?
