hamptonroads.com.nyud.net/2010/05/antiabortion-fetus-dolls-handed-out-norfolk-studentsIn Norfolk, Va, some teacher has been placed on leave after she was discovered handing out pro-life fetus dolls to students in the school. It included a guide on the first 12 weeks of fetal development, and some of the standard pro-life tripe. I, for one, wouldn't mind having one of those, if only so I could play hockey with it outside some pro-life group HQ.

Don't have the technology (meaning the chemicals) that can kill a fertilized egg before it even develops?
If not, why are still using techniques barely improved from a leatherworker's needle?

Look up birth control pills, they do it even better, no killing at all, they just make it so that there's no ovulation.

[fundie]But Vene, anything that prevents pregnancy and birth is the ultimate enemy of all powerful God! And any woman who tries to control her body and sexuality in anyway is obviously worse than Hilter and needs to burn in the unending suffering of Hell forever.[/fundie]

But in the case of an unwanted pregnancy that is detected very early on is it possible to perform an abortion, if chosen, that terminates it at the stage at which it is still clump of cells that shows no human features. Because the problem with some extreme pro-lifers is that they sometimes show, at some of their protests, aborted fetuses with recognizable human features (eyes, head, arms, legs) at IIRC 10 weeks stage. If we can make those images outdated, they can no longer use those images as a propaganda weapon.

Um, yes. In fact, abortions in the first trimester are what is known as medical abortions, which use drugs, rather than a surgical abortion. No, those are the moderates, the extremists are the ones who say that birth control pills=abortion. They are outdated, facts don't matter to these people.

Um... I can see what they're trying to say, and respect their rights to give their message, but... uh... the WAY of going about it isn't really going to attract that many proponents. That's just... Weird.
Maybe they should merge with PETA. No telling what sort of ideas they'd come up with then...

I thought a form of the pill stopped the egg from attaching to the wall in the womb? Anyways, to answer the "needle" thing...it's not possible to know which fetus is going to either fuck up its self or the mother, or both, at the point of contraception. That and, well, situations change in real life, and sometimes the solutions are not easy to make.

I've seen anti abortion signs with infants on them. It wouldn't matter if abortion was only legal a week after the egg implants! They'd still use pictures of babies and aborted late term fetuses.

One facepalm is not enough for this news story. If we can make those images outdated, they can no longer use those images as a propaganda weapon. It's tempting to think that, but a lot of these organizations are still using pictures of saline abortions, which haven't been common for decades because they have such a high risk of side effects. It's not about facts, otherwise they'd admit that 50% of embryos die in their first week when they fail to implant.

Handing out plastic fetus dolls is a good way to convince your students that...that what they always suspected about Ms Batshit being out her fucking mind were completely well founded. Edit: It was an elementary school, where the "squooshy" dolls were handed out to kids in the third and fourth grades? Fuck. Me. Sideways. That is beyond belief!

Yay for early indoctrination and lying propaganda! I could understand (still not LIKE, but UNDERSTAND) why someone would hand out anti-choice fetus dolls at a high school, where the students are in all likelihood having sex--you want to pass on your personal agenda to the students who could potentially (in the near future) have an abortion. But an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?? Idiot teacher.
Incidentally, a friend of mine got one of these fetus-dolls when she was the merch girl at a rock concert. She put a nail through its head and hung it from her rear-view mirror.
