Incredible. I cringed, shuddered and then face palmed.

It was just 2 solid minutes of Argument From Incredulity. "I can't believe it is true, so therefore it is not true."
Oh, and I love the kid at the end, "How can an African American person evolve from a white person? They're different skin." OK, right there you just learned how bad of a teacher that guy really is.

That about sums the whole thing up I think. From their superb oratory skills, to their critical thinking abilities and understanding of natural history and evolution itself.

You don't understand it, therefore it's not true? Fuck that noise. I don't understand how airflow and physics keep airplanes from dropping out of the sky, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. When you have even a BASIC understanding of how evolution and natural selection work, if you have the basic biology education as a foundation, then it isn't difficult to understand. Rather than the fundie asshattery people like this 'science' teacher spew. GODDIDIT only works as an adequate explanation if you're fucking stupid and enjoy being ignorant. Which, it's probably fair to say, is true of many people in the ass-crack of the Bible Belt.
I won't even mention 'LAHK, HAYOW DIYUD AYY-FREE-KUN AMURRKINS AY-VOLVE FRUM WHAAIIITT PAY-PUL? WE GOTS DIFF'RNT SKEE-YUN.' Except to say that (I think) the African people came first and other races came from that as they migrated over time.

Especially since the deviation between Caucasians and Africans is allopatric speciation, not evolution. And allopatric speciation is, in fact, definitively proven under laboratory conditions. The fundies can't even pull that "IT'S ONLY A THEORYYYYYYY!!!!" crap on it.

And regardless, you stick a bunch of crackers in Africa for a few thousand years, and they'll start to look, you know...Black. I hate to harp on this, but JESUS CHRIST. What do they think a suntan is?

Well, we could always use more hamburger flippers at McDonalds.

A suntan is different from genes changing. If you're of, say, northern European descent then you'll be born pretty white, no matter how dark-tan your parents have gotten from holidaying in Bali.

Even though I've seen it before, it's still an excruciating two minutes.

I live in what is arguably the most conservative large city in Canada, so I'm no stranger to religious view points, but the bible belt makes our conservatives look like hard-core liberals. We discussed creationism vs evolution in social studies, not science class, and the teachers usually did their best to remain neutral on the topic and let the students debate the issue, as the lesson was mostly about public controversies and debate skills rather than the actual issue itself. Incidentally, most of the students supported the evolution side of the debate, forcing the teachers to assign us to different sides... and I always seemed to get stuck with the creationist side.
Seeing a science teacher spreading unscientific crap is really depressing. I'm glad that I got a proper education on the subject.

It's not like this is an isolated occurrence, either, Joe. Not just the one school. Thousands of schools in the sweaty parts of the Bible Belt teach exactly the same rhetoric--some colleges do, too. It's rampant and we accept this deliberate ignorance and willful stupidity.

Yep...it's just so wrong...Thousands upon thousands of kids and young adults are getting cheated out of a proper education because GODDIDIT... ::sigh::

The fundies can't even pull that "IT'S ONLY A THEORYYYYYYY!!!!" crap on it. First, allopatric speciation is evolution. Second, it would only be allopatric speciation if there was actual speciation going on. It may have started, but since speciation did not occur, allopatric speciation didn't happen. The distances and differences in environment did lead to some changes, but they're pretty minor.
