Ok, so right now I'm at work. Cordoned off in our office while our building is cordoned off outside.
We have a diamond shop on the bottom floor and right now its being held up by three gunmen bearing machine guns. So far they have shot a cop but he had a bullet proof vest on and is ok and have taken a hostage in the diamond shop. One of the three perpetrators has been apprehended and the getaway vehicle has been stopped.
They have cordoned off everything because the diamond shop has a back entrance into our building and it's a distinct possibility that they could try and escape into our building.
The streets outside have been closed off, there are policeman and ambulances everywhere as well as sniffer dogs.
So, all we can do now is wait. We have no idea when we can leave, so yeah. I'm stuck here.
Very scary, very very scary

Update Bojangles please.........are you Ok? Yes, I am fine thank you. I was in the building on the 8th floor when it happened. My friend was right outside the shop through so she's a little traumatised. She's lying down now and the whole office is just waiting to hear what is happening.

They're busy checking that all are presented and accounted for now. Of course in situations like this the rumours are flying about what is actually happening, so all we can do now is wait until the police say it's ok for us to leave. Everyone in my department is here, I'm not sure about sales, finance and production yet.

I don't suppose there are any news vans about it such that someone could hook up a tv or something to find out what's going on?

^ Weirdly I've been checking the local news websites for the past hour and nothing. It's really frustrating because I saw some journalists and cameramen around and I know for a fact that two of the three biggest online news services in the city are really close by, but I haven't seen anything.
But what has happened is that the guys have all been arrested and that a security guard for the diamond shop was killed. I didn't know him but its a very weird feeling knowing someone who worked that close to you for so long is no longer there.
And according to our bosses we'll apparently be allowed to leave soon.

Ok, we are all being allowed to go home now. Everyone, with the exception of that poor security guard, is safe and unharmed.
Thank you all for your concern, it was very much appreciated.
*hugs*

Phew, glad you got out of that alright, though it's really bad about the security guard, I feel sorry for his family, but at least no one else got hurt.
