On Yahoo, FreeRepublic, Topix, etc? What sort of persona did you create? Did people buy into it? How far did you push it? (I try to be as realistically outrageous as I can, but keep it within certain boundaries of good taste) What are some of the things you said as a Poe?

My suggestions would be to play a woman, preferably one with kids, so you can complain hilariously about the evil games they play. Such a persona allows you to chip in on absolutelyu every issue.

Not quite. I prefer to subtly provoke genuine fundies into saying ridiculous and hateful things. I've basically mastered this and gotten it down to an art, though I mostly only do it in real life. It's fun to gently guide someone into inserting their foot in their mouth with their own bile.

I tried, but levitation is hard and my lantern wasnt the right shape.
Seriously, no. I WAS one of those people for long enough that I can come up with cringeworthy stories without pretending.

Not exactly. If I'm being blatantly sarcastic and someone fails to pick up on it, I'll sometimes run with it for a bit, but I usually don't intentionally set out to be a poe.
I sometimes go for stealth irony on RR, though it's not really about tricking people into thinking I'm a fundie so much as seeing if any of them are actually able to pick up on it.

I once created a persona called Screaming Troll for cracked.com on an article on trolling and posted everything in all caps, blamed Obama, predicted the apocalypse and misspelled every third word!

A Poe is someone who is mistaken for a fundy when being sarcastic, not someone who pretends to be the real thing[/pedant]

There's a guy named Captain Planet on mens-rights. He exists for the sole purpose of proving, "No, you fucking dumbasses, it's not that I'm too stupid to 'get the issues.' In fact, you're so ridiculously one-dimensional that, if I always take an anti-female stance & throw the word 'cunt' around like confetti, you'll suddenly think I'm some kind of genius."

As for me, I recently tried being a very deeply undercover Poe on a Yahoo message board, which I mention on this board under "Yahoo melts down even harder than FR on DADT". I said increasingly outrageous and over the top things and actually got several right-wing posters to admit that they admired Hitler. I don't think they were joking.
