radio.woai.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=119078&article=7986852In an attempt to cut off illegal immigration, someone from Texas has the brilliant (sarcasm) idea of making so if you receive benefits of any kind, you are considered "employed" in Texas. I find it ironic, myself, given the conservative nature of Texas politics, that they would use the very benefits they hate to do something like this. Why do I have a feeling that this isn't going to last very long?

I give it a month or so. I'm not employed by being on social security. Luckily, I don't live in Texas. But my ex-girlfriend who is also on Social Security, does. I guess that means she's employed?

I guess if recieving unemployment benefits makes you employed, they also get to stop paying you unemployment benefits, huh?

I guess if recieving unemployment benefits makes you employed, they also get to stop paying you unemployment benefits, huh? But then, when the benefits stopped, you would be unemployed and would be able to file for unemployment again. Texas is such a massive black hole of fail...

...I honestly don't see the big deal.
The only FAIL part I can see is that they're apparently doing it this way to avoid being seen as targeting illegal immigrants and therefore racist, which just goes to show how little they actually understood of the arguments against Arizona's law. The law was bad because it was blatantly unconstitutional and would obviously be used to single out Hispanics, not because it targeted illegal immigrants. Plus, my personal feelings on immigration quotas aside, there's nothing racist about measures meant to counter illegal immigration.

It's Texas.
The only thing dumber than Texans is Texans with lobotomies.

From the Shit Nobody Cares About Department: a lobotomy doesn't appear to actually impair cognitive ability, but the often dramatic impact on personality and self-regulation (particularly emotional regulation and intrinsic drive or work ethic) can make post-operative scores suspect.

I loved learning about lobotomies in my intro to psychology class. EVen better was seeing them performed on TV.
