How can you accept social supression This weak state of mind in our time I demand release from hypocrisy I'd rather die than be held down, forced down Freedom or fire Freedom or fire I'm on the threshold of revolution I'd rather burn than be held down, forced down Freedom or fire Freedom or fire Unrestrained determination Set ablaze for liberation Locked in chains of this sovereignty Let me be 'cause I long to be Free! Free! Unrestrained determination Set ablaze for liberation Set ablaze Set ablaze Freedom or fire
Fear Factory, Freedom or Fire

I don't even understand it. Sure, it's a remarkable display of dedecation to a cause, but all it accomplishes is eliminating a malcontent to deal with. Not necessarily. As in the case of the Vietnamese monk who set himself on fire to protest the atrocities of the South Vietnamese government, the act eventually lead to a large scale disapproval of the government and helped in basically fostering the collapse of Diem's regime. No it's not going to work in all cases. Certainly wouldn't work in Myanmar or North Korea.

It probably helped that the revolters chose to do something OTHER than set themselves on fire. Yeah, but somebody needed to light the fuse. It's hard to spark a revolution without, you know...Sparks. Okay, I just realised I have WAAAY too many flame puns for this. Maybe we should take it to flame and burn before it gets out of control.

::sings:: We didn't start the fire.... ::sings:: That guy did.... Can't start a fire, can't start a fire without a spark... But seriously, you know things are bad when people consider burning to death to be a better fate than living in your country.

So he can afford gasoline and a lighter, but not a loaf of bread.

So he can afford gasoline and a lighter, but not a loaf of bread. These may have been things he already had.

Keep going, you're on fire! I just didn't want to fan the flames.

Edit: Oh my God, this comment is so fucking win. "Why didn't he just buy bread instead of gasoline?" The advertisement under the article when I looked: Stock up with Fresh Food that lasts with eFoodsDirect I'm a horrible person. I laughed. Dist, it reminds me of the bloke I saw at Uni who was going to set himself on fire: Shame he didn't read the bit on the side of the fan that said it was diesel. Ever seen diesel burn? Me neither.

I think I still have the pictures I took of WWE.com after Chris Benoit died on my PC. The ads on the side of the article dealing with it were unintentionally hilarious.

Give a Man a fire and he is warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
Seriously though, there really are better ways of doing things that setting oneself on fire. If he has gas and a lighter, dont set yourself on fire in protest, set the people in government on fire. you will certainly get more done.

These dudes are following the example of that Tunisian guy who was a college graduate but forced to sell vegetable in the street before self-immolating and kick-starting this whole jasmine revolution nonsense.

On the 19 th of January 1969 a Czech student, Jan Palach did the same as a protest against stalinism. It gave rise to the Prague Spring. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Palach
