Okay, this one is for sounds in video games that send you into panic mode, even when you're not playing the game. For me, it's: The Trapper sound from Eternal Darkness. Sure the Trapper dimension was just an easy way to restore health the first couple times, but once you go from "harmless pocket dimension" to "holy shit how did all these Horrors get here I'm going to die," it kinda loses its appeal. The Sonic drowning noise. Manaical laughter accompanied by chainsaws. Doesn't help that it took me weeks to get past the first chainsaw guy in RE4. By the second or third, I stopped playing the game altogether, because it was easier than repeated decapitation. And because it had to be done, Sinistar.

Isn't Sinistar a wee bit before your time, L?

Isn't Sinistar a wee bit before your time, L? Yes, but it's become such a big meme that it pretty much has to be mentioned. Especially since it induced a heart attack back in the day, and is thus the only video game character to actually kill someone.

I don't get it. What part of that clip is scary other than it being pre-screamer vids?
At any rate, I have an intense dislike of the shuffling sounds used in horror games.

The background music from Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow during the first mission you're underwater gives me the willies.
Starts out as some calm and quiet tune then out of nowhere something that sounds like someone taking in a deep breath and then back to the calm and quiet tune.
Makes being able to hardly see a damn thing all the more scarier.

The SMB underwater theme is normally the opposite of creepy, but when time runs too low...

Anything involving ReDeads from Zelda. Especially that horrible scream, particularly Wind Waker's version of that scream.
It's like, OK, I'm making my way down a corridor, coffin opens and I run past it. Suddenly, EEEYYYYAEEEAEAHH!!! I cant move and some horrible abomination from the very bottom of the Uncanny Valley is slowly lurching toward me.
Also, the noise the Floormasters from the same game make when they pop out of nowhere and grab you is quite frightening.

I still draw the line at the Sonic drowning music. It's the most panic-inducing music I've heard ever. And the theme you get when your ascending the stairs in Super Mario 64. And the Boo carousel from the same game.
That's the carousel.

The noises the Cysts make in Dead Space 2. Imaging a deep voiced sumo wrestler gargling vomit. That's pretty much what it sounds like.
Also from the Dead Space games, the unbelievably painful sounding scream the Guardians (the ones haging from the wall) make when you get near them. Sounds like someone getting their balls cut off. With a rusty spoon.
Hearing the carrier Flood pop in the first Halo. I heard that noise and instantly shat my pants.
The sound of the witch crying in the Left 4 Dead games. That noise can strike fear into even the most hardcore gamers.
The Aurora Unit's satanic sounding cackle in Metroid Prime 3. It's awesome, but it just sends chills down your spine.

Oh I also hate the sounds in Fallout 3 when an enemy makes a noise behind me before attacking.
