I've heard claim that China has a long-term plan to overrun Australia with loyal immigrants who're supposed to acquire citizenship and eventually vote in a government who'll answer to Beijing.
Funnily enough, the genius who told me that was 100% serious.

You summed it up really well. When I was in the Army around the 25th of every month the rumor was always "DADT ends on the first maaaaan!" While DADT was repealed eventually, the end of every month brought the same BS..."No seriously. Its true this time."
The secret conspiracy having to do with all US presidents being like the 25th cousin of the reigning British monarch

A favorite of mine is an oldie, but goodie. www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.aspPoorly worded? Yes. So much so that it could be misinterpreted by anyone with 5th grade language comprehension or higher? No. Yet, ten years later I still occasionally hear the "Al Gore claimed he invented the internet!" nonsense.

The Clinton Death List. Full stop. A mix of urban legend, conspiracy theory, and flat out lies.

In the Bush years, there were also some pretty silly rumours flying around. One of the most memorable ones was the tale about someone somehow coming across information that proved Bush would declare Martial Law on a particular date. I've seen the same one recycled with Obama a few times. There was also the one about Bush having the lowest IQ of any president within the last 50 years, Bush refusing to sell his home to blacks, and, one of my favourites, the rumour about him repeatedly saying "feces" instead of "fetus" at a pro-life rally. All are false.
The all-time greatest, however, has to be the hoax about Bush being arrested for war crimes while on a trip to Canada. People actually fell for it.

There's one that comes up from time to time (am trying to find a link) which is popular in Russian political circles, namely that within two years, the US is going to sell Alaska back to the Russians. The reason for this is apparently the US will be a financial wasteland brought on by the 'moral torpitude' of its citizens and will need to raise money fast, so they're going to sell off Alaska (and apparently, bits of Canada, depending upon which version you read). Althought the theory sounds like something a drunk would come up with, it apparently has a lot of people in Russia believing it's absolutely true, many of whom are in positions of power.

The fact that he thinks Canada will take control of parts of the US is enough to make me doubt his credibility.

The myth of stuffed ballot boxes in Chicago deciding the 1960 election of John F. Kennedy over Dick Nixon. It was California that was the deciding factor not Illinois.
