Anyone else think they were watching The Onion News Network?
In regard to the police officer's remarks:
Should it be one's right to wear a t-shirt that says "I Love Osama bin Laden"?
Yes
Could wearing such a t-shirt aggravate someone to punch them in the face?
Yes
Should the person that commits the assault on the t-shirt wearer face the same charges as someone who committed the same exact crime, but with a different motive?
Absolutely
Should the person that wore the t-shirt be held legally responsible for aggravating the person that assaulted them?
Absolutely Not
I think you know where I am going with this.
Granted, I don't know if there is any weight to the idea that dressing in this or that way would bring someone to rape them, and at least I doubt it does when it comes to premeditated rape.
However, if someone were to advocate that one should not wear the aforementioned shirt as a safety precaution, even though it is their right, I would think that such advocacy would generally not spark controversy. So, that leaves the question as to whether the officer deserves more scorn than someone who advocates against wearing the hypothetical t-shirt as a safety precaution. I mean, I didn't hear him say that women who dress this or that way are to be held responsible for being raped.
Sorry if I end up being a buzzkill, but I couldn't help addressing the topic of the video.
Update: I watched the video again and realized that I forgot the officer used the uncalled-for description of "sluts", and, yes, he should be scrutinized for that aspect of his comment.

? Nope, not really...
I got paranoid and wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of 'joke', so I found a bunch of articles about it...and of course, the comments are...lovely.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it degrading to men to say they have no self-control and are mere animals with no higher brain functioning when in the presence of a non-related woman?

I don't think "degrading" is the word you're looking for. "Honest," perhaps....>.> But kudos to that poster for finding a new way to blame the victim....Which is the reason "slut walk" was organised to begin with.

"Honest," perhaps....>.> But kudos to that poster for finding a new way to blame the victim....Which is the reason "slut walk" was organised to begin with. HA. "honest?" Are you living under a rock? I usually don't like to bring this up. I don't even know if I've ever mentioned it on this board. But I was sexually assaulted/coerced when I was a junior in high school. My attacker didn't want me dead, which is more than I can say than the girls who beat the living shit out of me and left me in a ditch when I was in grade school. And you know who believed me when I told my story? A male administrator. The female teachers? Thought I was making it up. I'm not saying that rapists/sexual assaulter aren't bad people- they are. But it's naive to assume that every single man is a horrible person- it was a man who found me that day. It was a group of girls who nearly killed me. I did nothing to deserve that. I take responsibility for my actions in my later assault, though. I was weak. I allowed myself to fall into another trap- I was lucky this time though. My attacker wasn't gentle with me, but he did not rape me. He did not, to put in bluntly, put his dick in me. I'm sorry, I don't like discussing this, but lately I've seen an increase in this shit, like "Every man is a potential rapist! And women never do anything wrong!" By the way, if I remember correctly, you're a guy right? Disregard this if I'm wrong. EDIT: I think this walk is kind of a dumb idea- go to work, goddammit! But there's a point to it. The cop was out of line.

Oh yes this. I remember this. I do believe that it came about cause some Toronto cop had some good advice for women to prevent rape; don't dress like sluts. And this is the result.
Ironbite-what an idiot that cop was/is.

If you leave uncovered meat lying around and a cat comes and eats it, do you blame the cat? Or the person who left the meat uncovered?

If you leave uncovered meat lying around and a cat comes and eats it, do you blame the cat? Or the person who left the meat uncovered? A cat can't look at the meat and think to itself "Hmm, even though theres the opportunity to eat it, this isn't my property, or I don't have the consent to eat this, therefore; I won't."
