Found this video from the Guttmacher Institute that lays out a lot of interesting data on abortion. Not sure how well-known much of it is, though the Religious Reich seems to have done a really good job of distorting the facts, so they're probably close to unknown to the general population.

"Facts" I learned from NRL and other anti-abortion organizations:
- Most pregnancies are terminated for "convenience," whatever that means.
- Women often abort children for such minor and easily-fixed deformities as cleft lip and palate. (Numbers?)
- Over 80% of children with Down syndrome are aborted. (The numbers I've seen vary from 80 to 95%.)
- One-third of abortions are performed on black women because of some sort of sinister racist progrom; if people weren't pushing abortions, clearly black women wouldn't have them.
- Teens frequently get abortions and will even cross state lines to have one. Abortion is also a common way to cover up incest.
Yeah, the other side has been pushing my conspiracy-theory buttons for a while now. I grew up hearing this shit.

I honestly think people are supposed to come away from that with the Foamy mindset: "What were you thinking? 'Gee, I changed my mind and I'd rather have a dog instead!'" In other words, it's trying to paint women who abort as lazy whores who'd rather kill a dozen babies in utero than have to ever change a single diaper.

It's amazing that these people treat financial ability to raise a child, environment to raise a child, and willingness to raise a child as trivial things, since that's probably what they mean when they say "convenience."

That's a case of twisting facts. From what I understand cleft lip and palate are common reasons for abortion. However, they are severe cases of it, not minor cases that are easily fixed by surgery.

I have an extremely high palate, so high that apparently it's a little peculiar that it didn't cleft. And my mom didn't abort me! Therefore it is the wrong choice for all women.

The great paradox of anti-abortion arguments is that they apparently want people they consider to be bad people - because only bad people would even consider having an abortion, after all - to reproduce more.

It's amazing the logical disconnect these people have when trying to advocate removing a woman's right to her body. It really is.
Ironbite-the fact that there's laws out now that are stripping women those rights and women are supporting them is amazing to me.

Wow, this wouldn't have anything to do with poverty and lack of education programs leading to an increase in abortions, would it? Hurr.

Because some women see it as a human being. IMO, that's a valid feeling.

No I have no clue where this comes from. Some jackass on another message board I go to posted it. There's no study linked to it and I can't find anything that supports this, like at all. Ironbite-it's just...so bizarre

I've said it once and I'll say it again: just because SOME women see fetii as valid human beings doesn't mean that all do and CERTAINLY doesn't mean that all women should be forced to live by this belief by being denied access to abortion.
Also, how do you tell if a fetus has a cleft palate? I mean, at what point can you tell?
