I have zero faith in Blizzard's willingness or ability to regulate PVP in any kind of vaguely sane manner, so this is probably a considerable problem. Solution: only play with my friends, I guess, if I do buy it.

If it's anything like D2, no, the host will have no meaningful powers different from the other players.

Oh well, there's always Torchlight II.

Word of advice, people: don't do this to existing MMOs. EVE Online recently exploded over a mere possibility that CCP might allow players to use real money to affect the game.

Unlike every fuckin other game that allows local, internet-based play, they don't give the host any actual power... Sounds like its time for a patch! Blizzard are one step ahead of you there though, mods are against their rules. And because you need to be connected to play, they could even ban people for using single-player mods.

See while EVE's problem was vanity items selling for ungawdly prices. Monocle for 70 real dollars, ya no thank you (not exaggerating on price either). But I have no problem with someone paying real money for vanity items, mounts, companions. It's when said items actually can unbalance the game and make it unfair is when I get pissed off about it.

Personally I'm not going to bitch about it, I'm just not going to buy the game. I refuse to buy any game that requires me to play online.

They've had PLEX since 2008, soo... Plex isn't exactly the same as pay to win, though. I mean, it gives you an advantage you wouldn't ordinarily have but it's not something you couldn't achieve without paying real money for it. Also, PLEX has the side effect of letting me play the game for the better part of 3 years without having paying any monthly subscription. At one point I had seven accounts until I got fed up of shelling out 2.5 bil every month to keep them all running.

You can pay for in game things using the ISK you get from PLEX though. I love PLEX, but once you allow cash to be injected into the in-game economy, you can pay for whatever advantage you want.

Of course you can, but all those things you can buy with "bought" ISK you could also buy with ISK generated in-game. It's a fallback option for people who aren't good/established enough to make money legitimately.
I wouldn't really consider that P2W. Now if they were to extend the noble exchange so you could buy better ships, modules and implants that weren't available from any in-game source, that would be an issue.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, not a problem there. I've never played any Diablo on anything more than a LAN game. As far as I'm concerned, Battle.Net can kiss my ass, and so can Blizzard.
