HAHAHAHAHAHA, not a problem there. I've never played any Diablo on anything more than a LAN game. As far as I'm concerned, Battle.Net can kiss my ass, and so can Blizzard. I'm not quite sure you get it. There's no Lan functionality.

I'm not quite sure you get it. There's no Lan functionality. This. You have Single Player and Battlenet. And using mods in Singleplayer will get you banned from Battlenet and Singleplayer. To be honest, I'm MUCH more upset at the part where you have to be constantly connected to the internet to play the game. For one thing, not everyone has a 100% stable internet - fluctuations happen and disconnecting form the server for even a split second can cause issues, as Assassin's Creed 2 proved to us. Second, when I buy a single player game, as in the physical disk, generally I like to play without having to worry about my internet connection. Because sometimes the internet goes down. If a game has no reason to be connected to the internet, it should not require it. The only games where this is acceptable are browser games (for obvious reasons) and MMOs (also for obvious reasons) Blizzard's made a bad move with that.

Not like we couldn't see it coming. SC2 is the same way, as will likely be all future games that rely on Battle.net.
I do admit though, I hate the idea of using real cash to buy items. The currency in Diablo 2 was worthless as it was because it dropped in such ludicrous quantities and you were limited by how much you could carry, making it exist purely for repairs and gambling up new equipment from NPCs. What Blizzard needed to do was invent a way for Diablo 3 to have a viable in-game economy, not roll over and say "fuck it, the people selling you a Grandfather for $20 were right all along".

Guess who's not getting this load of crap? Also, the first Diablo was better, anyway.

For those who don't care about being on Battle.net, you can always download a hack and use it that way. I'm sure it will be modded by those who just want to learn to play without being online, and if so tempted, will install legit if they want to explore it that way. (And likely go back to running it hacked when they meet the community)
As far as "whose wallet will determine the winner," that's because people are too lazy to build an effective character out of blues and other assorted trash, but would rather follow a build guide from their favorite website and not compromise on the dictates of his "authority." It CAN be done by those who learn to play, it will take a bit longer, that's all.

I didn't play D2 PvP, I don't intend to play D3 PvP. If the PvP system is that same as D2, you won't really have a choice.
