I'm at the World Science Fiction Convention in Reno. The first thing I'm going to, in 15 minutes, is a presentation/slideshow called A Visit to the Creation Museum. Should be fun.
P.S. @ Shane: I just saw a cute androgynous girl with short hair dressed as Dr. Who.

The creation museum presentation was PACKED! Standing room only, which is rare at a con. The presenter (author John Scalzi) mercilessly mocked the museum and was cheered for it. Warmed my heart.
Today I'll be going to "Understanding Dothraki," "Intro to Linguistics," and a language creation workshop, all featuring David J. Peterson, the guy who invented the Dothraki language for Game of Thrones.

Is Understanding Dothraki about understand the people or the language? Because if it's about understanding the people, I suspect info is just being pulled out of the speakers' ass. They're giving no culture beyond being a generic savage horde. Which is sad, because there's tons of information about the other cultures beyond the Narrow Sea in that series.

It was about the language, specifically, how he was chosen for the job & how he developed it.
He took questions and asked for all the the questioners' names. Then at the end, he said he would make words for all of our names, so my name (mine specifically, not just any old John) will be a word in Dothraki. Can't wait to see what it is.

That's pretty cool. Just have to hope he doesn't make it mean horses ass.
