I enjoyed Eva, but the huge amount of faux-intellectual types that try to speculate about the meanings kinda ruins it it a bit. The movies seem to be just a better-animated version of the same thing. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't buy the DVDs. The second Rebuild movie does away with that notion entirely.

Yeah, the first movie does that a bit too with the redesigned angels, especially the last one.
Also, Shinji has some idea of what's going on by the end of 1.01 rather than being clueless until the very, very end.

That could possibly be due to Rebuild being some kind of alternate universe as one theory says.
It would explain a lot of Kaworu's lines.

Well, from what I hear, rebuild is how Anno wanted to do it the first time.

I'm pretty sure they showed them all, maybe not in close-up but at least in that overhead shot that they always used whenever Seele was confronting Gendo. They're all shown in the manga, I don't think they are in the anime. I marathoned the series recently too, as well as the Kyoto Arc of Rurouni Kenshin & I'm currently doing the first 2 arcs of Bleach. I watched an episode of the anime about the chick with no head recently. It doesn't seem that bad.

I watched an episode of the anime about the chick with no head recently. It doesn't seem that bad. You mean Durarara? I enjoyed it a fair bit. Since it featured a Dullahan as one of the main characters, I felt compelled to watch and I wasn't disappointed. I haven't watched the dub though, is it any good?

Yes. I still can't bring myself to say the title.
Remember, I've only seen one episode so far, but the dub seemed pretty good. Unlike the latest season of Bleach, which somehow managed to get the guy who voices Roy Mustang & still do an awful job with that character.

I like Eva, and I watched it for the mindfuck.
About Rebuild I have to say the following: The fight with Sahaquiel (the one dropping from orbit) and especially 01 racing to meet him/her in Rebuild 2 is far too ridiculous for me to take seriously, Although I really like his/her new design.

Funny, I hated the new design & liked the fight.
Eva & Big O are the only giant robot anime I actually like.
I saw Hell Chapter last night. It did not live up to the hype.

Mari. You can think of her as Asuka's Mary Sue aspects taken Up To 11.
Third Impact didn't occur, it was stopped by the Lance of Longinus or some such shit.
What I want to know is what this "Key of Nebuchadnezzer" nonsense Gendo mentions at the end is about.

Oh I see, there was an after-credits scene, okay.
I assumed that that is going to fulfill the same role that Adam did in the show, considering that the scene is almost identical to when Gendo gets Adam
I don't know about any Mary Sue-ness with either Asuka or Mari, but I do find her entertaining so I'm not against her being in it, just kind of threw me for a loop.

Well--this board really needs spoiler tags:
With Asuka, her introduction in both the manga & Rebuild is her killing an Angel single-handedly. Then she moves into a new school & is instantly popular. She has the highest synchro ratios for a while. To be fair, she's probably set up as such to deconstruct the Trope, but still.
Mari's introduction also has her kill an Angel single-handedly, but then she goes on to sneak into Nerv & steal an Eva, pilot it when it's not even hers (& Evas are kind of Empathetic Weapons), & know enough to activate and control a Berserk State.
So, yeah, kind of a Mary Sue. I'm waiting to see where she goes, but that Beast scene was pretty awesome. I'm just saying, that's all there really is to know about her right now.

haven't read the manga, but i assume it's done the way it is, to get her introduced quickly, rather than using a whole battle for it as in the series. You're dead on about Asuka being a deconstruction though, specifically of The Ace.
Good points regarding Mari, though there are some stipulations that make me hesitate to go so far as to call her a Sue.
consider that she destroyed the Eva along with the angel. It's also been established that Evas can be piloted by people other than their designated pilots.
It could be possible that she just walked into NERV, remember, she was the Eva pilot at the base in the beginning, it's possible that her security clearance would apply to NERV in Japan.
Still, I agree, wait and see. She hasn't really had enough screen time for a decision either way, at least for me.
