I house-sat for my aunt for a week at the beginning of August, and had access to their Netflix for that week.
I went home certain I'd never pay for that shitty service.

Well, now I know what service NOT to get. The problem is, there aren't really better services right now. Though I'm hoping Amazon's deal will get better.

I love Netflix. Before my brother took his Wii back, I used it every day.
I recently found out that seasons seven through thirteen of King of the Hill are available for instant watching, even though they haven't been released on DVD. How awesome is that? Extremely awesome.

All in all, Netflix ain't all that bad. Its got some areas that need improvement, sure, but its a fairly good thing in general. Quite useful, actually.

If regular television weren't so annoying I wouldn't muck about with Netflix. Or, you know, if I had the money to buy boxsets of the shows I wanna watch.
Seriously considering getting boxsets though...

If regular television weren't so annoying I wouldn't muck about with Netflix. Or, you know, if I had the money to buy boxsets of the shows I wanna watch. Seriously considering getting boxsets though... I hate cable. I hate paying like 100 bucks a month for the privelege of watching 6 channels, 10 on a really good month. I hate having to surf through 500 channels of programming, half of them redundant, to find something to watch. I hate the way tiers make it hard to get what you want without paying an arm and a leg. I like the box set solution, but Netflix introduces me to stuff I wouldn't otherwise see. Some bad, but mostly good. Anime, especially. So much of it is shit that I wouldn't spend money on individual titles and I'd miss out of the good or fun ones (I'm not sure I'd call Bleach good, but it's fun. And Gurren Lagann is super STUPID, but I love it). Technically, I'm still paying for the other stuff, but as part of a package that's worth a few duds. I can watch old favourites and discover new ones as well. I really hope they don't fuck it up, because this is a pretty good concept. I never would have bothered with Twin Peaks if I had to pay brick and mortar rental prices or buy the set. Too much up front investment for a cult show. But I love it. Probably wouldn't have bothered with Classic Who, either, but having those serials available both on disc and streaming makes trying them more appealing. And I'll probably buy a lot of them later. To me, Netflix is the perfect marketing scheme.

Does every show start several second later than it should for anyone else?
I mean, when it starts playing, it is clearly already a few seconds into the episode. Not a big deal for movies, but for TV shows it can be confusing. I just started the last season of Scrubs, and the episode starts with JD's foice "...pital, but I'm just back to teach a couple of classes." I can't figure out where they are. It's clearly a med school, but why is everyone from Sacred Heart there?

It's clearly a med school, but why is everyone from Sacred Heart there? Not every show, no. But several. Also, in at least one anime (I think the original FMA), the first second would play at the END of the prior episode. So I think it's a transfer problem. I don't know how they do the transfer to digital (Or if Netflix does it at all; perhaps it comes from the content provider), but it's almost like when you rip an MP3 poorly. It seems to happen inconsistently with ST:TNG. I've come into the "Captain's Log" monologues several times in the third syllable.

I like Netflix for the most part...now I just stopped the streaming part of the service, to cut down on the cost, I'll pick it up again when I get a new computer, but first I need to find a job. I don't like how they're missing a couple collections of Dark Shadows, but I'll live with what they got for now.

Grrr. I love how their language options for Bleach are "Eglish" and "English," and subtitles: "None."
Yet when I went to pick up where I'd left off with the discs, it's Japanese language and subs only.
This wouldn't be too big a deal for me normally, but I started the show in english and I'd rather continue it that way because I'm now used to the voice actors. 87 episodes will do that to you.

It seems they've started doing away with the intro for Buffy and taking off a minute from the beginning. The episodes I watched last night I was brought in right in the middle of the beginning fight in the cemetery and a conversation between Faith and Buffy.

Wonder if they've been doing that with Dr. Who, or if the series itself had just stopped doing the "Previously On" type thing.
