(If this should go in F&B, please move it)
Netflix is just fucking with us now. First they separated their disc and streaming services to get more money out of us and now this:
I was right in the middle of watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, season 1. I just tried to continue where I left off to find that some time in the past two weeks, they took it off! Not the whole series, just the first season. How does that make sense? Why provide a series without the first season? Now I've gotta jump ahead to season 2 and mess up the continuity.

Did it have subtitles when you were watching it? If it didn't, maybe it has something to do with their promise to make all offerings closed-captioning capable.
Stop laughing!

It's most likely not Netflix in this case. It's most likely the content owner, in this case CBS. Netflix has to often negotiate deals for streaming. So it's possible for whatever reason CBS has decided they don't want Season 1 streaming anymore. It'll probably end up streaming again at some point.
Edit: I'm not positive it's CBS that owns TNG, they own TOS.

Yeah, they've been promising that for like two years and made LITTLE progress. Simsim, it seems implausible that they would be willing to negotiate for seasons 2 and up only. This is not without precedent, and it's been more annoying other times. I remember one anime where they took out seasons 2 and 4. Or collections. Or whatever. Anyway, I'm not saying you're wrong, just that it seems like there might be more to it. I know Starz is completely going bye-bye in February, because they wanted a bigger piece of the pie, but that's part of a larger distro deal. Ironically, it would appear they want more because of the streaming split. That extra revenue Netflix was trying to get may end up having to go to the content owners to keep things going. On the subject of TNG, I've been watching it for a few weeks. Glad I got through season 1 a while ago, now hoping I can finish before they drop it. I just want to strangle whoever keeps arranging for some of the movies in my queue to be available for only a few weeks.

Wait. I can't watch season 1 now? That's bullshit. I waited ages for them to get Star Trek on the streaming service.

Yeah, they've been promising that for like two years and made LITTLE progress. Mrr, tell me about it. When I first had Netflix, I didn't think about watching Buffy or Dr. Who (not sure if they had subtitles then, anyway) but NOTHING I watched had ANY subtitling options, and every time I complained to other Netflix subscribers they told me I was crazy and that everything THEY'VE watched has subtitling. That's all well and good, but I'm hard-of-hearing over here, and when you have a HoH person with a headset that's dying and who prefers to watch cartoons much of the time, it fucking SUCKS not to have subtitling. At least Dr. Who has it, god knows I'd be up the creek trying to understand them without it.

I mean, I'm not hard of hearing, and I STILL have trouble sometimes. Same with a lot of content on Netflix. I got to Farscape Season 2, and I have the volume cranked up to almost max on my TV and can't hear from ten feet away TOPS. Also, fuck the people telling you that. There's a ton of them everywhere. I'm convinced a lot of them lie. They say there's no problem with whatever they're fanboys for, and that something is wrong with you. Hell, I once asked about XBox Live at one point, and got called a troll, a faggot, and a Sony Pony for my trouble. Microsoft actually commented on the outage later, and I found it hard to believe the number of people saying there was no trouble were actually honest. I find it rather amusing that Saddam Hussein actually had to PAY people to claim Iraq was still strong. Most corporations get that kind of service for free.

Also, fuck them for using the "remastered" TOS.

Well I found out for myself that the OP is right, fucking TNG only has season 2 onwards. I instead opted for Voyager. I'll have to find somewhere to watch TNG.
Does anyone else notice low volume on almost all of the shows and movies? I have to turn my TV up ALL the fucking way to hear shit.

Yeah, their volume is kinda low... Been waitin for some time to have part 4 of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on streaming because our DVD queue (for our whole family) is already kinda long. Also, fuck them for not having the 2004 Zatoichi in English. Say what you want, but subtitles tend to bug me when there's a version that's already in my native language.

OMG, I thought I was the only one with audio issues! >.> Subs don't normally bother me, and considering how BAD a lot of the English voiceovers are, I often prefer them, but I like the option, because I desperately need new glasses and can't feasibly sit as close to the TV as I do to my monitor. But even if that wasn't true, I have no problem with having the option. I do like having multiple language tracks on DVD. Especially since, when I'm watching with friends, I usually NEED to turn the english dub on.
