Tax the shit out of the rich and corporations..... then give them tax breaks for every fucking job they actually create. Isn't that what they keep telling all us non-rich? That you shouldn't get anything you haven't earned? Well, make 'em fucking EARN their tax breaks. Tax deductions for things that actually matter? I'm all for that.

Unfortunately, we can't dare tax those precious snowflakes, otherwise they'll flutter away and not give us the jobs that they're currently not giving us.

God forbids you spend money on something like infrastructure. Nope. You'd rather mess with my marriage prospects. "Small Government" indeed!

Wish I could say I was surprised. It's like these guys are trying to preserve America as it was in the 50's--male breadwinners, 2.5 kids with a girl and a boy, white picket fence, family mutt, pregnant teens sent away to an "abroad" school by the aunt and uncle, pre-Matthew Shepard hate crimes against the LGBT community....
You know, just like the good old days before goddamned liberalism insisted we change all that hogwash. They're trying to preserve an image of America that has long since passed.

Fixed that. That 1950's "golden era" is nothing more than a facade. Republicans would shit their pants if they were faced with the prospect of 1950's era tax rates.

I've noticed that Republicans, and even Conservatives, are rather naive towards American history (I've also noticed their knowledge on Christianity isn't any better). I think that's why these people are such bull: the America they envisioned not only never existed, achieving it is just not practical.

I think that corporations and other companies should get a tax break for employees, but also a bigger one for full time employees. Temp works, part timers and unpaid interns should revoke tax breaks, because they're unnecessarily exploitative forms of employment and should be either banned or discouraged.

I wouldn't mind the US in the '50s. In 1950, the unemployment rate was 1%. It's not so much the economic situation that I'm concerned about, it's the social. Since this thread concerns itself with what I consider a social issue, I thought the 50's were the best example of that. Pregnant teens disappeared and were never heard from again, or came back after nine-month "visits to the aunt and uncle," homosexuality was something that needed to be "fixed," it was still politically correct to attack minorities who looked at someone wrong, and good women realized their place was in the kitchen, with both hot meals and vaginas ready at their husband's whim. Was it an economically good time? Oh, I don't doubt it. Postwar America boomed. But was it a socially good time? Well, it's certainly not a state of ignorance I'm keen on returning to, since the cure to my depression and anxiety issues would either be electroshock therapy, lobotomy, or "shut up, buck up, and learn to take it like a man."

I'd miss a few things, like computers and MRIs and cruise control on my car, but other than that I wouldn't mind the 50s too much. Probably mainly because the "Leave It To Beaver" version of the 1950s that Republicans have such a hard on for never really existed anywhere but on TV. But then again, there were downsides. In some ways the nationalism was even worse than today and hate crimes were a national pastime. Ah shit, I guess it wasn't any better and we'll all just have to learn to live in the goddamn present.

I'd be careful on that, Fred. A lot of people use that to help build resumes, and colleges use internships to help people get their chops together for their professions. Let's not get short-sighted here. We get enough of that from the GOP.

Yeah, use the good bits of the past to make the present and future better.
Also, sounds to me like they're shooting for a DODOMAA.

But then again, there were downsides. In some ways the nationalism was even worse than today and hate crimes were a national pastime. There's also the constant thread of a US/Soviet nuke slinging match hanging over everyone's heads. That's also a rather large downside.

Wait, I thought they wanted to CUT spending... Apparently, fighting social equality is more important than paying teachers!
Maybe... maybe if we run all of our social policies back to the '50s, we'll get the economic status to follow?
