I don't know how chemical castration works, but assuming that they don't physically cut off the offender's genitals, then aren't they still going to be able to molest children?

Chemical castration generally involves the introduction of hormones (in this case, progestogen), which are meant to kill the offender's sex drive and ability to get an erection.

Silly law. Here's just one of the problems- what are they going to do with regular rapists? Are they going to castrate them, too- or is adult rape less serious than child rape? In the context of mind-fuckery? Yes. An adult can understand what rape is. A child (such as one under the age of 14 with context to this law) cannot. It can have serious effect on the development of a person. Bullshit. Rape will probably cause huge psychological damage, whoever you are. I think that there is the threat, here, of lessening the wrong of adult rape: which is both more prevalent everywhere, at unacceptably high levels in Russia and usually leads to the community blaming the victim.

An adult of the age of 20 does not have a developing brain like a child of 10. A child molested has heighten chances of having severe problems in their adult life because of it. The idea that a child can cope with rape just as well as an adult is insanity.

The idea that anyone can cope with rape "well" is even more insane.
How about we agree on this: Rape, no matter who is receiving it, is horrible.
Why should we be lenient on the people who rape adults?

it'll make them more violent as they seek an outlet for the same urges that got them in prison in the first place. I thought the whole point of chemical castration was to essentially remove those urges. That being said, I'm assuming this is talking about child molesters and not the guys who fap to loli/shota. This law would be a lot better if it applied to all rapists, IMO. And how much of what the child molester does is out of sexual desire and not out of some other desire, such as the desire to dominate another person? And is it all permanent? I mean, it says castration, but is it the same as having the balls cut off?

It would require someone with a criminal conviction to willingly have the injections whilst at liberty, which means they can abscond and the process stops, or they have to take it whilst in prison, but if they're in prison what are the chances of them offending anyway?

Chemical castration generally involves the introduction of hormones (in this case, progestogen), which are meant to kill the offender's sex drive and ability to get an erection. And this is why chemical castration works so well against recidivism. It is a well-known fact that rapists are mostly driven by their libido. By the way, I heartily approve this initiative from the Russian legislature. Its gratuitous disregard for the most fundamental human rights of society's most heinous criminals is very laudable indeed. Two wrongs make a right, as the saying goes. Some people might worry about the long-term effects of such a procedure, particularly in cases where the target is eventually found to be innocent. The fact that it might set a precedent for government using the threat of chemical torture to scare their population straight is also expected to receive some complaints. But, I'll tell you what... ... oh, fuck that. I'm too disgusted by what I'm saying to go on.

Why do you assume they do it to themselves? They have to get an injection once every few months, or whatever time frame is appropriate, or they violate their parole and are in deep shit (as in, jail time).

Er. Try reading the entire thread before responding. You might discover some things like, oh, chemical castration isn't permanent? ... thank you... where did I say anything like that? I know that the primary effects of chemical castration last only as long as the injections are done. I also know that the kind of extreme, long-lasting hormonal imbalance that it induces tend to have some unfortunate side-effects that are somewhat less temporary. Also, I should clarify that I was "disgusted" by my own sarcasm, not by the law itself. I... do not feel that strongly for the human decency of child molesters of all people. My actual feelings about this are more like... detached disapproval. Sleepy, detached disapproval.

Yeah, I know that Vene, my problem is that there's a good chance they'll leg it within a couple of months of release, then we're back to square one.
