And yet Maine GOP legislators are trying to crack down on it anyway.Yes. The GOP is trying to stop something that doesn't exist. After a two-month investigation into possible voter fraud by college students and noncitizens, Maine Secretary of State Charlie Summers said Wednesday his evidence showed that none of the students committed fraud and only one noncitizen voted in Maine.
Nevertheless, Summers said his investigation confirmed his belief that Maine’s election system is “fragile and vulnerable,” and he vowed to submit legislation in January to fix some of the problems. Oh, but it gets better! One of his findings was that 77 students were registered in Maine and in another state between 2008 and 2010.
Asked whether that constituted fraud, Summers replied: “It is fraud if they intentionally did that. But it’s very difficult to prove [intent].” Summers said he doesn’t intend to further investigate their intentions.
Another finding revealed that five students voted in two different places in the same calendar year — once in primary and again in the general election — but none voted twice in the same election.
Asked whether voting twice in the same year in two separate states constituted fraud, Summers answered: “Technically, it’s not a violation of the law. I’m not sure exactly how patriotic it is.” Stay classy, Maine. Keep making New Hampshire look sane in comparison.

Love the, “Well, it’s not patriotic, so there!” attitude.

By extension, he's calling his own country unpatriotic since there's no law prohibiting that.

Yeah, not too proud of that. Between Mr.Summers and Mr.LePage, this state is pretty fucked.

College students vote democratic. Therefore, the GOP is trying to make it harder for students to vote.
Simple, really.

Love the, “Well, it’s not patriotic, so there!” attitude. I don't even understand that. How is voting unpatriotic? Not voting I can understand, because it's not participating in the democratic process or whatever, but voting multiple times? Seriously?

College students vote democratic. Therefore, the GOP is trying to make it harder for students to vote. Simple, really. If Wisconsin passes its voter ID law requiring matching addresses on Voter Reg card and your licence, there is going to be a lot young folk in a lot of states that wont be able to vote, when others follow the example.

I just wonder how long it would take for a challenge to strike down such blatant disenfranchisement.

College students vote democratic. Therefore, the GOP is trying to make it harder for students to vote. Simple, really. I don't know. Many students are dumb Rand-roids who'd vote GOP in an instant. It's just college students are more likely to be liberal because of education.

They are willing to bite off the Young College Republicans and what have you as long as they think they are doing more harm to the Democrats in the process. Remember, this party was willing to hold the country’s economy hostage to get what they wanted.

A big problem in this country is that too many young people turn far far right before they even make any money, thus sabotaging any chance of ever doing so.
