I keep reading the thread title as "Rep. Courtney Love", and I'm like "who voted for her?" The sad thing is: I'd rather vote her into Congress than any of the piss-ants that are there now.

Well, hard to imagine she'd vote to keep funding the "war" on drugs.

Wow. I feel awful because I live on about $AU125 a week. I eat out a lot though.

How the fuck is a refrigerator not a necessity? I've heard some dumbasses actually use that as a serious example. Which is why I insist on bring it up every chance I get. To mock said dumbasses.

This is $32.59 a week each...
So instead of $155/meal (article says $1.59, but it appears to be Fox so not surprised), they have a collective total of $3.10/meal. If they don't eat breakfast (and many folks don't), they are up to $4.65 collectively or $2.32 individually for each meal. Ramen is still like $1, right? Throw in green onions and maybe an egg and they are doing fine.
Seriously, not that hard. I did it through most of the 90's and early 2000's.

Again, though, I think you're all missing the point.
The point isn't whether or not it's possible to live on that much a week. Obviously it is, since there are so many people who have to. The point is that it sucks having to live on that much a week. That's the point they're trying to make. The idea being that if people become more aware, people who are actually living on SNAP might be given more resources.
It won't work, because the people who are resistant to increasing money for the poor aren't ever going to take the SNAP challenge. And they're going to say the same things you are. "It's easy to live off that much money. Anyone can do it. These people are just whiners." Since they've never had to live like that, they don't understand the difference between surviving and living.

I do muss Cub Foods. Eagle bought them out here, closed all of the stores, and then promptly went bankrupt.

My Kroger sells ramen for 25-50cents each. I think it's Maruchan.

To be fair, when I was poor enough to have to do eat Ramen regularly, I didn't want to admit it, so I normally got it either from Aldi by the case (more rarely, Aldi was a 1.5 mile bike ride, or a 20 minute bus ride) or from the local convenience store. I don't remember the price of the case but the singles form the local store were about $0.75 each.

Its not a great way to live, especially for the longer term. And yes, in my student days I had the "well, what can we do without this fortnight, food, electricity, or fuel?" conversation more times than I care to remember.
