Hm. Kinda old news.
But nevertheless, let's bite into this matter.
On one hand, I do believe that we are giving Hitler much power posthumously in allowing his name to be such a stigma.
On the other hand, the fact that they know this stigma, named their child so, and then named their other child Aryan Nation... they intentionally did this for publicity, because they blatantly want to be persecuted for this. So, quite frankly, they don't have a smidgen of innocence as far as I'm concerned.

That said, if you name your kid something you KNOW is going to get him beat up at school, you have issues. Some friends of mine refer to what we call the "back door test", for naming pets. In short, if you imagine you would feel like an idiot standing at the back door and yelling the cat's name of an evening, then its probably not a great name choice. The same works for kids, only moreso. Attention whores in the first degree, IMHO.

I don't see why they're not allowed to keep their kids if they're not guilty of child abuse. If raising your child in a prejudiced environment is enough to take away custody, then why haven't we rescued these kids yet?

Because they're Christians.
...Seriously, that's probably why.

Or that. That's more compelling than my hypothesis.

why were they allowed to name the children that in the first place if the names are enough to get them taken into state custody?

If a doctor realizes you're about to name your child something stupid, like "Blanket," "Kal-El," or "Adolph Hitler," they should have the right to Bright Slap you and make you change the name.

The article says that they were cleared of abuse charges but that there was still sufficient evidence for it that they couldn't get their kids back (I'm not quite sure how this works). It says that there were claims of Adolf threatening to kill people and that the mother told neighbors that she was afraid of her husband.

I kind of understand the states position on this. These people are clearly neo-nazi's. If they are raising their children in that kind of environment it wouldn't surprise me if those children in turn ended up killing someone in their teenage years. The Phelps clan at least make sure all their kids are taught to be insulting, rude and annoying, but also pacifists, so the clan can sue the hell out of anyone who so much as tells the kids to shut up.
Although naming the kids that specifically reeks of attention whore. Then again you get people who name their kid moonbeam and other weird things. I am more inclined to chalk it off as stupidity at the time of naming.

no. Not Neo-Nazis. Just White Supremacists and members of the Aryan Nations which are not in fact neo-nazis.
