ARE they actually members of Aryan Nations? Most certainly part of a local sect of the Aryan Nations. But, I am not an expert on who is and who is not within AN.

The name wasn't the reason the kids were removed. It was the reports of the husband physically abusing the kids and the wife and the fact that the 5 year old kept threatening to "kill" people in school. That's what brought it to Child Service attention.
Although it is true that anyone who uses their children's names to make political statements, regardless of whether or not those statements are controversial, is a d-bag of the highest order.

Wow..first time of hearing this. I especially like the part where they basically say that they aren't bigots yet have swastikas all over their house. Personally I don't know why those kids were returned, I would of preferred that they stayed away.
Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation? As names? I'm all for weird and unique names as I think that Elm and Sorority would be cool names for girls, but shit, these kids are destined to be bullied like hell throughout their childhood,
I hope that they don't grow up to be bigots and that they see the world differently than their parents but that will probably only happen when they are teens/adults and possibly when they go to college. If I were one of these kids, I would change my name legally to something else once I turned 18.

Wow, that's some piss-poor reporting. The details they actually give you, they clearly want you to conclude that they're Neo Nazis. So much so that they omit small pieces of information such as, oh I don't know, the fact that the swastika isn't a "Nazi symbol."Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be shocked to find out that they are Neo Nazis. But they could just be douchebags trying to make a moronic "point." Mostly, I'm mad at the fact that they put Godwinning over actually writing a damn story. I mean, did you notice that the article is all about "ZOMG THEY NAMED THEIR KID HITLER" & says very little about the child abuse allegations?

If a doctor realizes you're about to name your child something stupid, like "Blanket," "Kal-El," or "Adolph Hitler," they should have the right to Bright Slap you and make you change the name. I know a woman who worked as a nurse who helped infants and mothers. She encountered a lot of weird names. One boy who was born in a commune was known as One Free Antwhistle. Another time, the nurse asked a new couple what they wanted their daughter's first name to be. They said what sounded like "Aniss", spelled A-N-U-S. When the nurse explained what that actually meant, they decided to name their girl that anyway, saying they had thought about it "long and hard." Eventually, a doctor had to persuade them to name their girl something less inflammatory. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_name#Regulations In Japan, there is a certain list of kanji that are permitted for use in names. Only these kanji are allowed to be used when naming a child. A couple who tried to name their child Akuma (devil) were prohibited from doing so. However, ju or noro(i) (curse), sho (prostitute), and kan (fornication) are some of the kanji that are now being possibly added to the list. As for my opinions on the case itself, I think that the government should not be telling parents what to name their children, but they definitely are in the business of protecting children from abuse. And that's what seemed to be going on here: abcnews.go.com/US/parents-cannot-regain-custody-children-nazi-inspired/story?id=11334970. However, unbelievably enough, the case was dropped due to "lack of evidence". You've got the testimony of neighbors, a wife who confessed to her friend in a letter that her husband threatened to kill her, and a man with a history of siring bastard children and abusing his girlfriends. According to the wife's testimony, her son Adolf Hitler has been trained to kill since the age of 3, and she can no longer bring him around anyone who "isn't white" because he will start spewing obscenities at them (courtesy of his father). It was reported by social workers that while the children were under government custody, Adolf also held a vacuum cleaner (one of the tools used to "discipline" him by his father) to his sister's throat, called her a "bitch", and threatened to kill her. So not only is the husband abusive, but his wife is too scared to do anything about it and their son is turning out to be a sociopath. Like father, like son. articles.nydailynews.com/2010-08-05/news/27071868_1_appeals-court-family-court-court-rules They finally got them in the end though. And I hope that the parents who hopefully adopt those kids have the sense to change their names.

I believe there are similar laws in Denmark and Germany... if you want to name your kid something that isn't on the approved list of recognised names and spellings, you have to make a special submission.
I imagine trying this stunt in Germany in particular would go down like a tonne of rocks.

no. Not Neo-Nazis. Just White Supremacists and members of the Aryan Nations which are not in fact neo-nazis. So that's why this dude looks nonplussed. He's an aryan nations white supremacist and that cop who took the photo actually called him a Nazi? Insensitive bastard!

Ugh. This is fucking sick. Kids are human beings, not pets. You shouldn't be able to give them stupid names.

It's like when you pass out drunk at the wrong party and get all sorts of shit drawn on your face. He's one of those rare cases where wearing a burqa would *improve* his chances of a successful job interview.

they have strict rules about names in France as well, although they've loosened up a bit recently.
The problem with trying to stop people from giving their kids "stupid" names, is that stupid is in the eye of the beholder, and if we had rules about it, I could see bigots trying to use them to stop people of different ethnicity from giving their kids traditional names.
That said, names that are blatantly inflammatory like the full names of dictators and swear words shouldn't be allowed.

That said, names that are blatantly inflammatory like the full names of dictators The problem with that is that one man's dictator is another's liberating hero. Not to mention the problems you run into where some dictators have quite common names, especially in certain ethnicities.
