That said, my beef is this: What’s up with the Facebook link every time you ask a friend for help? I think is was to actually post a help request to Facebook for your friends to respond to. Basically to see if asking for help from friends would actually work when you select that option.

Some people wouldn't ask their friends for help because they'd be too embarrassed or afraid of social stigma.

So I’m supposed to actually ask a friend in real life to help me with my non-existent laundry and car issues for the sake of a flash game? Good way to annoy friends: Pester ‘em on Facebook three or four times per playthrough on this thing.

I just tried to test the Facebook buttons, and they don't do anything. I think the idea is that most people associate FB with friends, so it's just a visual indicator of going to your social circle for help.
Or, it could have originally tied directly back to FB and they disabled it.

It is far easier to ask for help in a game than it is in reality, not to mention that if you're at low income your friends are probably unable to help. You're also not going to keep friends for very long if you keep asking for help with laundry.

I'm just saying that's what the Facebook link seems to be there for. I'm not telling anyone that they have to use it.

Every time I actually choose an “Ask a Friend” option, it opens up a Facebook login page in a new tab. I don’t actually have a Facebook account, so I don’t know if it is actually trying to get me to do something on the game’s Facebook page or if there is something else going on. But you certainly don’t have to do anything to continue the game. In any case, it is really annoying to have to close an unwanted tab four or five times per playthrough.

I posted the link to another site, and a British person asked if banks in America really charge you money if you don't have enough in the bank. They couldn't believe it. The sole reason I have a student checking account (which my parents can see and do things with if they so desire) is because otherwise I would be penalized every time the balance dipped below $500. That's not a typo--I would have to keep a balance of over five hundred dollars to avoid fees. (Wachovia 2 years pre-WF buyout).

Whenever I hit that button it automatically tries to post a link on my wall asking someone for whatever it was in the game I decided to ask a friend for help with.

Oh, maybe AdBlock is disabling it for me. Another reason to love AdBlock!

I have Adblock too and it's not. Perhaps it's Noscript (assuming you have it)?

Probably, not that it's super important to me to go root out the cause.

Okay, they do at least have a tag that says its part of a game, then, right? Once again, I wouldn’t want to be posting requests for help with laundry, rides to work, and paying loans that I don’t really need.

Once Facebook opens it asks for confirmation that you want it posted on your wall.

Yay. Still fucking annoying as hell to close the window/tab every time.
