Play this video game to find out!The first time, I made it out with only something like $80. Second time around, I took more risks (avoided paying insurance and such) and made it out with more.

That's a really interesting game. I didn't pay money for anything I didn't need and had $600 by the end.

Eh. I made it through with $10, but I gave my child everything she needed/wanted.

First play through I managed to come out with around $300. Not enough to cover next month's rent. Second play through I went broke at around day 10 because I needed $400 for a vet bill that I didn't have (and there's no way I'd either have it put down or let it suffer).

oh, I played this on Fark months ago... most of the folks there called bullshit, because Murphy's Law is DESIGNED to kick you in the balls in that thing, even when there (feasibly) should be other options that THEY DON'T GIVE YOU.

Bottomed out on Day 8 because I'd rather go hungry then let a pet suffer, and it's heartless to put them down out of convenience.
Of course, I wouldn't (and don't) own a pet because I can't afford to take care of it, including trips to the vet.
Edit: 2nd try through, got through the month with $767 in my pocket.

Mine stopped playing after day 15, even though I haven't lost all my money.

First run I made it through with $134 dollars left over at the end of the month and still managed to pay all the bills. This surprises me. Second run through I lost my job but still finished out the month with the bills paid and the car made legal and had $284 left over. Third I ran out of cash on the 17th Fourth time I ended the month with $215 dollars, but my company instituted a pay-by-piece system and I opted to stay on an hourly pay. so the fuckers cut my hours in half and my paychecks were knocked down to $50 bucks.

I posted the link to another site, and a British person asked if banks in America really charge you money if you don't have enough in the bank. They couldn't believe it.

I got through with about $200 at the end of the month.
One thing that annoyed me is that the game assumes you have kids. So many of the choices involve buying something for a child. Every chance I got, I refused to buy something for the kid, just on the basis of "I would never have a kid to have to buy for."

Hell, that'd be a good addition near the start of the game: Do you have kids or not? If not, do you use birth control (additional cost) or something "natural" like the rhythm method and hope for the best? A lot of people who live at/below the poverty line avoid having kids as long as possible, just because they can barely take care of themselves.

Yeah, and Mario Brothers assumes you are a plumber working on a bunch of pipes. Right at the beginning, it lays out the situation, including “You are a single parent” and “You are down to your last hundred dollars.”
I figure the Murphy’s Law bit is also justified, because for some people, there is such a thing as a streak of terrible luck, and those are the people that need help most. Additionally, most of that crap, or variations thereof, will hit most folks, even if not in the same month. Playing the game out over a longer period will likely just extend the agony.
That said, my beef is this: What’s up with the Facebook link every time you ask a friend for help?
