Kind of unrelated, but ... Someone made this comment: “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”. - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948. Those darned protesters, barricading the roads and gassing innocent policemen.

Large scale protests do damage business, unfortunately it is the small businesses that are not responsible for the trouble are the ones that suffer the most. I feel sorry for them, but then if business is slow they might as well get out and join the protestors because they are just as raped by the large companies.

Someone on here posted saying they were afraid businesses would lay people off who would then clash with/ blame the OWS movement. I can't remember who it was, but it appears they were startlingly accurate.

Remember, citizen, terrorists are to blame for all those infringements on your personal liberties. We have a upper-class, medium-sized business owner claiming to speak in the name of middle-class, small business owners because he just discovered the fragility of his own lifestyle, while serving the propagandist interests of big companies owned by the super-wealthy. What a joke. What a depressing, depressing joke.

I mean, we haven't upturned the Capitalist system, but if you actually look at the platform that lots of socialists ran under back in the twenties and such you'll find it is largely stuff like child labor laws, minimum wage laws, collective bargaining rights, and workplace safety laws. They weren't monsters.

Not really. They are reporting the exact same story (Milk Street café, natch), but with a greater focus on the bullshit Mayor Bloomberg has been spewing on the subject. Except for the last paragraph, of course.
